I've got my first electric guitar (200+$) a few months ago, and how do I know whether she needs a setup? I just got started learning how to play only btw.

Anyone doing setups too?

Guitars in that price range generally do not have very good fretwork so lowering the action might result in more fret buzz. However, almost any guitar can be made more playable by adjusting the nut, saddles and neck. Most guitars would also require intonation adjustments so that it will play in 'tune' everywhere on the fingerboard.

However if there are basic construction flaws, it might not make sense to spend money on a setup as the basic problems need to be addressed first. You can bring the guitar down to Zen Guitarwerkz this Sat and I'll give you my take on it.
