Drumkit From Hell Superior Questions

Hello everyone! I'm here with some questions about the Bass drum setting in Toontracks EZdrummer DFH superior. what i wann know is, how to get a kick sound that is more treblish, and stands out more. the sound i'm getting now is kinda muffled, and does not give a clean cut when mixed into the song, like its not distinguishable.

I've got a sample of my work here,

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=860225&songID=7075452

that song was done with DFH, but i want a sound more like this

anyone got any idea? i've tried isolating the kick and EQing it, but the sound is still nto too good.. thanks

Cool tune and nice playing.

You need to make room for each instrument. You mix is pretty mushy coz everything is all over the top of each other in terms of frequency, especially in the Low's and low-mids. You will need to EQ the other tracks (guitar and bass especially) to create some space for the kick and the snare. I'd turn down your guitars too since they are drowning everything else out.

Other than that, try switching to a plastic beater in EZdrummer, it gives a little punchier sound. Also try reducing the room and overheads a little to bring the kit up front.

wow nice comments thanks helped quite a fair bit :) the sound of the plastic beater turns me off abit though, but i guess i'll give it a try. thanks again

2nd that.... Try bringing in kick and Bass gtr 1st while mixing, then guitar and snare, then ting tangs...
Hope his helps.

Either you drop the EQ and compressor before exporting drums or you can do it afterwards too.

Some nice settings for the compressor would be a 1ms attack and 200ms release, ratio is upto you, I usually settle for a 3:1

The plastic beater kick sounds horrible in the interface but I find that it blends in very well in my song when mixed well. You can check out 'Sarcasm' in my page below to hear it in action.

Hope this helps :)
