do u use ur pinkie?

question, does anybody use their little pinkie very often for ur lefthand? my pinkie is very weak and i want to know if anybody maximises its use :D

*edit using the pinkie for playing :p
 
Use it all the time!

If your pinkie is weak, then do some hammer on/pull off exercises with it... keep all your other fretting fingers on the fretboard, fretting a string each, then do your hammer on/pull off. It will kill your pinkie but its very effective.

Or you could buy a Gripmaster. :)
 
You would be able to do wonders on your fretboard if your pinky is "alive". Too bad mine is weak and fat. Need to put more strength into it and yeah i totally agree with shredcow on the gripmaster....it's a good piece of shit but please warn beforehand that it'll hurt and there are different tensions for it.

For me, what i do is during warmups i'll just play my ring finger and pinky. So start from 6th string 1st fret, play up down till 24frets....you'll feel the strain but it feels damn good.

Do those simple 1-2-3-4 exercises slowly then once you can fret them cleanly, try doing some legato stuffs. Think it will kinda help.
 
I can't imagine playing with just 3 fingers. When I first started out, I was using my pinkie to play the intro of Sweet Child, so it comes very naturally to me.
and yes, I sceond what Shredcow said. Do trills with your pinkie to strengthen it.
 
yup i try to use it as much as possible. when i was training i did the 1 2 3 4 exercise as lifehouse has mentioned earlier.
oh and basically be more aware on how u use ur pinkie n the rest of ur fingers. it'll improve ur speed alot :)
 
I do the 1-2-3-4 excercises but only just started. I have a strong pinkie, but when play, it feels VERY awkward to use it when playing and to move it around without moving my other fingers.
 
so... basically a lot of 1-2-3-4 and hammer-on/pull-off exercises will strengthen my pinkie and that will improve my speed is that it? okies. ^^ great. i'll start on those.
 
i used to think the pinkie was not good enough to do vibratos and stuff hence i used it much less... but now i adopt using it to maximize my fretboard range & versatility.

of course, i still don't use the pinkie for vibratos and bending.

Dang!! for a second there i thought that u can do vibratos n bending wif ur pinkie. 8O

Dario, that'll be a good start. but don forget to do 4 3 2 1 n doing that on diff parts of the fretboard. :D

Well, it would but to get the MOST out of it.. you will need to isolate your pinky. Keep your other fingers on the fretboard, 1 fret to each finger on the same string... then do hammer on/pull offs. This isolates the pinky, is ridiculously hard to do, but results come FAST. Note that this exercise is not easy and might result in INJURY.
 
I'm sorry but I don't really understand what you mean. Could you do a tabbed example for me. please? :(
 
what shredcow is saying is, make sure yur 1st 3 fingers are on the given string while your pinke does trills.
 
Just wondering.. Does anyone use their pinkie to do a vibrato? tried it before..and it sounds lame..hahah.. :lol:

So... I just leave the other three fingers fretting the three frets above the pinkie and do thrills? okies. ^^ thanx.
