Dimarzio PAF humbuckers

Hope I got this correct. A shop at parklane quoted me $360 for a pair, neck and bridge with chrome plating. Do you think its worth it. Or shd I get something else? I want a sound similar to Creed, 3 Doors Down, versatile but not bluesey.

ditto snake

BTW is that shop guitar gallery? (or the one next to it?). do take note that covered humbuckers cost slightly more (refering to your ´chrome plating´)

Yar.. My fren working there so he said got some discount for me. Hows the PAF with chrome covers like? I´m intending to put it on my PRS Tremonti SE, cuz I can´t get the Mark Tremonti Pickups(rumoured to be P90s) anywhere in SG. Thanks in advance subversion.

chrome plating? that´s interesting

Wat rubbish.... Mark Tremonti Pups rumoured to be P90s? Do you know whats the difference between a humbucker and a single-coil? The PRS Mark Tremonti Pup (Both Treble and Bass) are humbuckers with coil-split capabilities. P90s are single-coil soapbar style pups. Go check out the Tremonti Pups here

I´m kinda worked up by this coz many ppl mistake Mark Tremonti Pups to be something else. I´ve heard ppl say that PRS buys Mark Tremonti Pups through Gibson´s 500T Ceramics. Which is like totally crap coz PRS wounds their own pups in-house.

Lac.. dude.. I seldom touch this pickups stuffs.. In fact I noe nuts other than single coil and humbucker. I have seen the MT Pickups maybe you could provide a link to the P90s instead.

Yea sure... this is the link to a p90

and this

http://www.gibsonstrings.com/pickups/vintage.shtml

as you can see, P90s and Humbuckers (Not only the Mark Tremonti Pickups) are extremely different in SHAPE, SIZE, TONE, OUTPUT. If you want more information on pickups, you could read up on this.

Anyway, i´m not trying to be a smart-ass here and to make you look stupid or whatever, but such information posted on the forum could be quite misleading, especially to beginners. Hope this helps

Hehe, I´m the begineer quoting from another website. Anyway, PAF is better or are there any humbuckers to recce?

the PAF model by Dimarzio is a vintage output humbucker. what Tremonti sports in his signature single cut PRS, is a high output humbucker in the bridge (it´s a actually a modded HFS model) & it´s an uncovered unit. i hope your covered humbucker-to-be is the neck unit, that´s what Tremonti sports there.

my proposal (which you have no obligations to conform to) is to have a versatile pair. a high output unit in the bridge & a medium/ vintage one in the neck. the neck unit, although not as high output as the bridge, will perform better clean. that´s what experience taught me...

list what you have in mind here & we´ll help you choose bro...

what´s the guitar it´ll be in?

i have the PAF (uncovered) in one of my Ibanez RG. contrary to popular belief, this humbucker sounds impressive at high gain settings. it also sounds thick (in the bridge position).

As for the wiring, will it be wise to engage Davis to do it or pay someone to custom do the wiring? How does the PAF from Dimarzio compare to PRS humbuckers?

I seriously recommend u to totally DROP the idea of refitting ur pickups to HFS and Vintage Bass. Firstly, the HFS and Vintage Bass was designed to be on 24 fret guitars (Custom/Standard/CE 24). I´ve tried those pickups on a Custom22 and it sounded less bright and super muddy! Its losing alot of mid-range tones when put into a 22 fret guitar! Plus, the pickups are designed for coil-split too, so you´re actually paying more for PRS pickups on that! It´ll be a waste unless u wana wired your guitar to coil-split it! But what for when your Tremonti SE (which is a 22 fret guitar) will not sound as good as it will be?

I recommend some Les Paul Compatible pickups. If Dimarzio PAFs are great! And so is Seymour Duncan JB, 59s etc? you may even wana put EMGs! I´ve seen people fit EMG 81 and 89 into Tremonti SE and it ROCKS! I seriously discourage subversion´s idea of HFS and Vintage Bass!
