Oh, My God..Was a terrible show...

I dont know what the contestants think of themselves?

Probably Mediacorp should have arranged a couple of vans for taking some fellows to Woodgroove for "Special" Treatment after their audition...(like the "Careless Whisper Guy, Lime Tree")

Singapore IDOL Sucked on the first day !!!

I didnt watch it. But judging from the nickname titles from my friends in MSN, it was either a flop or ridiculously funny. Heard there were some William poseurs..

I just saw it for around 10 mins yesterday. Is it just me or did the judges look more nervous than the contestants themselves?

Damn, anyway I think I missed the singer with a watermelon head and bananas for hair...

Ouch, they twisted the show... There were 2 auditions not 1 first of all, and the 1st audition wasn't judge by the judges, they were judged by inexperienced volunteer mass communication students from polytechnics and NUS who knew little on judging singers.
What a cheap skate, can't they at least pay musicians like us to do the job, at least we would do a better job in selection. There were so many good singers i've heard of ousted out in the 1st round unfairly.
Moreover, they seem to be picking up only on pop singers, and yet they declare themselves as not doing that. Ummmm..... like as though every person selected seems to be that smooth voice picture. At least American idol has rough voices like Josh Gracin etc. Where exactly is the unique quality they claim they are spotting, i don't see any. Or maybe they were ousted in the 1st audition by poly students?

well i knew there was something very very wrong with the kinda people that they aired on tv... for god's sake, how did they pass the first audition! and i think there are very few mass comms. the notable one will be Ngee Ann, and i think its no wonder we get such crappy people up there.

It should be renamed as Singapore Funniest Videos. It seemed as though the judges were blatantly trying to diss as many people as they could. Such an american idol copycat! I can't stand the freakin attitude! And like "oh, what i'll be looking for is very different, coming from the media industry, i'll be looing for someone with the X factor". like doh...

singapore has many good singers, and all of us being musicians, i reckon we've heard a couple of decent ones. though hardly any were present there man. the real stuff wouldn't go there and embarrass themselves. they're like wanting to wait for pop stars to strut in with the perfect anything.

well, people in the circuit make it big not by having all these things, but first and foremost, by having good music, that people like and appreciate! the attitude, personality and all that comes much later AFTER the CDs been released! sigh.. commercialization and media ratings are DESTROYING music!

Firstly, Mediacorp is doing this mainly for profits reasons...i.e money from sponsors and advertisers. That's the main thing.

Secondly, it's for entertainment value. So use clips that show the most embarrasing, most idiotic moments. Make people scringe and laugh. Occassionally throw in some inspiring moments (like tonight's episode) to tug at heartstrings and gain general approval.

Thirdly, the idol is a manufactured pop star...not a rock star or metal star or jazz star. They want to ensure that the SI has maximum appeal. Although how the SI will make it in this small English market of ours is another story. Even good and proven stars like Tanya Chua finds it hard. I don't know what's the record label agenda is, but it's probable that the SI may have a Mediacorp contract if things don't work out in the singing department.

Finally, I wouldn't be surprised if there will be a second season of SI if this will takes in the money and the ratings.

wow did mediacorp paid those pple to do all those stupid stuff on TV?

i believe most of us watched SI just to have a good laugh.

Nobody cares anymore when someone has one - its the show, the competition, the juding etc that is the whole show. It's not actaully about the person who wins, it's just seeing the whole process.

who knows... at the end of the day .. the english singer will be singing chinese songs or malay songs in his/her future album. he/she will open a market at taiwan or malaysia or indonesia. singapore cant market out in the english market due to how big american, uk market is. u think they will listen to us singing our version of pop rock, old jazz, blues rock, old pop, slow pop or should i say all LOVE music when most of our singers diction is yet that clear. i can say dick lee make one of the best judge around.. due to his experience and songs, plays musicals he wrote and arrange. he certianly know who is best in the industry judging from his past experience. music industries in singapore is really so small until i dont really even remember there is a single english pop singer that can really make it. maybe they should allow the more creative entries like allowing to sing their orginals or friends orginals in the finals if they have thier own writing..

i see one of my old friend in it already .. hope he can make it too ..

Seriously, if they really want the music industry here to really make it, i feel they should push up more original song competitions. US and UK ain't going to see us asians singing another cover song like them. They will rather support their own kind. But when it comes to originals, we have a bigger say if we come out with our own stuff. I think in the 70s, a Singaporean group came out with a song i think was called "Tokyo Square" or something like that, hit into US Top 40s. It has that oriental feel to it.
By the way, there's one thing i still don't fully get though, some times that thought swings hard into my head. Why is music there for competition??? Wasn't music for appreciation and enjoyment? Why is it that all that is filled in with who makes a joke or who should be this way or that??? It's like someone makes it this way an everyone else are trying to follow that style and be like that person. What happen to bringing out your own essence of enjoyment, connecting up with your song, making it ya very own??
I believe if they approach local music with a higher sense of maturity, people would approach it more seriously, instead of making a fool out of it. Something like having regular programs about Singapore local groups and acts, telling their history, screening their performances, interviewing them, showing their MTV, all that which relate the public to local music and arts.

Tokyo Square is the name of the group, fronted by Max Surin. Their song 'I love you' (pronounced in Mandarin) was a hit in the early 90s, not 70s (that's way too far back).

There are just too many editing.

Does Mediacrop think Singapore audiences are fools?

The flow is just not there.

I think those people who are in the movie industry will understand what i mean.

Sarcastic remarks

I have watched the first two episodes. I feel the appearences of Kelvin Sim (Lemon tree), Steven Lim (She bangs)., Mel Sng, who asked permission to move around a little bit and the wisper man Patrick Koo, were more entertaining.

The show introduced few wonderful voices like Jeassea K thyidor, Audry cheong and Mohd sadli (Solitaire)

I am not happy with the sarcastic remarks of the judjes like " It is like someone giving you a massage, You sing like a bird, a crow, You sound like a bunch of cows going to get milked, Your voice is so husky. Husky is also a dog (hair style), A baby that wont stop crying.

looking for the next episode

ENTERTAINING  Boooooo!!!

Those were all the craps in Singapore who want to show their face on the TV...If you feel that it was entertaining..Sorry...The program has no standard or class :?:

It is a talent to act "Blur Blur" If I were them I would not have kept the serious face of Kelvin Lim.
