If the pickups are new, it is reasonable. Dimarzio cost about $130 at Swee Lee. Pickup installation is about 30 to 50 bucks, setup about 50 bucks and above.

Yup, no point cheating. Your friend should know at the first place if the pickups are new. Was'nt he at the shop when he asked for the pickups replacement?

If everything is legit, it can't be a scam even if he charges your friend $500. He quote the price, you pay the price. So it's your friend's choice whether should he choose to do or not.

But whether the pickups are brand new or it might not be a dimarzio, then it's a different story. Of course if the receipt stating that it is a dimarzio being installed and in fact it's actually another pickup, i believe you have the right to sue them.

I believe suing a company or a person will not be good thing at the end. It is costly to go to court and pay lawyer fees. If your friend got scammed, get solid evidence and settle it between you and person/company. It would save a lot of trouble. Just my 2cents.
