“Deafcon is the most important gig happening in Singapore right now”, is one of the kinder remarks you may hear about the Deafcon series.
It is one of the very few gigs that allow young bands with zero gigging experience to play in a venue with a decent sound system, alongside crowd-draws like Firebrands, Caracal, West Grand Boulevard, Bad Obsession, and the like. For this reason alone, young musicians all over the island may very well view Deafcon as the best thing since file-sharing.
Following on the heels of Deafcon 3 that featured rock, roses and rap, Deafcon 4 will be held on the 7th of July, 2007... Yes, it’s on the day when countless couples are getting married because it’s “Seven seven seven mah! Good luck!”
Metal band Iron Buddha is the newest act on this month's list. If they play as hard as they mosh, they'll be a force to be reckoned with. Psychotherapy, also metal band with a gathering fan base, reportedly asked, "What CAN'T we do on stage? We like to put on a very... visual... kind of show." Firebrands, fresh from opening for Puddle of Mudd and Jet, is eagerly awaiting another chance to play a show intense enough to break eXe’s micstand. Rosli Mansor is the standout act of the lineup, given the rarity of instrumental rock guitarists in Singapore. He is a definite must to watch. Quoting "Music isn't simply played with your hands, but also, with your heart.”, Aphonia gets upon the gig wagon riding on the track of experience bringing their form of alt rock to Deafcon 4. Also performing will be Sinn.
Deafcon 4 will also feature a segment called Leonard Soosay's Pick. The acclaimed producer, affectionately known as The HAND, will be picking his choice of band for the DEAFCON series which he thinks gonna tear up the Singapore music scene. This month's band, Astroninja All-Stars, by popular demand, will be breaking their "one night only" performance commitment. Currently in the studios recording their new material, they will definitely rock your socks…shoes…and shelaylis off !!!
