Hi I just want to ask ppl out there what are they using as daw nowadays? There are so many in the market and the operation is getting simpler and simpler compared to previous years.

i'm still using audition 1.5 for tracking and editing. Even though 3.0 is out, I still find 1.5 good enough for most of my needs. I'm still trying to learn cubase for mixing, but the interface looks intimidating enough.

i really suggest get the mbox instead of mbox mini. the mbox mini is very limited. if ure planning to go bigger in the future. best to invest a little more.

hmm depends on personal preference I guess... I think, mbox mini is just enough for like mobile use, to unlock protools as a DAW and some basic recording? Mbox mini is just one more input difference, so I suppose if you'd really want to go for one which lasts you into the future go for 001 or 003? haha that's just my opinion though

mbox ADDA = shakes heads
mbox mic pre = shakes heads
protools midi = shakes heads
cost = shakes heads

if you aint rich dont do protools.
if you had tried other DAWS, you wont choose protools too :D

HAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!. No offence doggieshaman. If you want PT, go HD. Otherwise there's tons of other options. Me? Apogee and Logic, Class A converters and fantastic workflow - record and arrange a song in an hour.
Hey Liatena, you coming to my workshop on Sat? More tips and tricks, don't shy we have a beer after. I've got 1/2 hr break. PM please?

haha, oh no offense taken. I use protools HD in school, so that's what i'm really referring to. I guess I don't really bother to ask HOW MUCH it costs, so my bad! haha...

but that would mean you can't compare these softwares cause they are made for different ends of the market?

anyways, so for simple home use, which softwares/hardwares do you reccomend then?

wat i hate about pro tools is that it needs another hardware to work..where else other daw can work on its own..and sounds as good. And the hardware really cost. M-Powered is good enough i guess..works at least with m-audio 2496..thats the lowest it goes i guess..
But with good hardware and great control surface it's one of the best to work with. can go without the mouse.

doggieshaman you mention
"protools, nuff said. Haha, get the mbox mini thing it's the best"
if thats what you meant by HD its actually the LE. yea.
Anyway i guess your from NTU right? can i know which course are you taking? Have you heard of a lecturer name Per Magnus? hahas

The digidesign HD system is very very costly and yes it only uses digidesign stuffs. You could still use outboard gears but you still have to go through digidesign stuffs. hahas guess thats a con for PT users.

Home users definately can look into Pro-Tools if they want because its sort of like the industry standards, but right now in our age theres many other DAW that works the same way as Pro-Tools does.

Most DAW works the same way, its just that you had to find one that suits to your liking. Pro-Tools is great for its audio application as everything is flexible the key commands makes workflow really alot easier and fast.
Then again i would turn to Logic,Sonar,or even Cubase for automation as yes its alot more flexible than Pro-Tools.

Give and take, any DAW would work for you if you know how to use it well :D

haha yes, correct, i'm from SCI lah. No i don't know Per Magnus, haha...

hmm the thing about Mbox mini i'm saying 'it's the best' as in its the tiniest thing that can do lots of stuff thing, that's LE sorry if i made for confusions haha.. ran it on a laptop on the go, which is why i said the mbox mini kicks ass! but of course not comparable to the bigger ones. The protools HD i use in the audio suites (obviously i can't afford all that equipment)

but at the same time my experience in there also concurs with what you say about outboard gear, it's killer trying to figure out what goes where... hmm what about adobe audition? I mean looking from a home studio/foley perspective? I've been using protools and i do concur it should try to integrate itself into video editing software

uhs i see!!!
sounds cool , i didnt know NTU are having courses that dealt with audio. Its great to know anyway.

:D

oh anyway if you are a Window user, you really might wanna try out cubase. I happen to try the AI version, felt that the interface is rather refreshing and its sort of like the stuffs are all there for you to navigate easily.
