'darker sounding' LDC for bright vocals.

I currently have a Rode NTK. Am considering a 2nd mike with a slightly 'darker' sound for vocals that may sound too bright with the NTK (though the NTK is not a particularly bright mic). Budget around $500+

Any suggestions on models? Are the Shure KSM27 or equivalent AT model at that price range considered 'bright' or 'dark'...?

thanks.

From what I understand and what I gathered fom clients
Usually, people associate bright tone as tone with lots of high mids whereas darker sounding is associated is lesser high mids.

you might want to try VIOLET DESIGN The Black Knight EUR 325 a bit out of your budget..but high quality than rode

neumann TLM170. its not 500bucks definitely but its the whiniest 'darkest' piece of mic ive ever used. :S

Saw the Violet Design guys at AES San Francisco last september.
The guy who designed the BLUE mics is originally from Violet Design.

“Baltic Latvian Universal Electronics” simply bought over the designs from him.... interesting... everyone's seeing BLUE mics instead of Violet Design. The power of marketing.
