Craftsmen LP stock pickups

I am currently thinking of changing my Craftsman LP stock pickups. Anyone can advise me if this is a good idea? Also, I tried to remove the pickup covers from the stock pickups but was shocked to find the covers being soldered to the bottom of the stock pickups. Is this normal?

It definitely is a good idea if you really love the guitar and if you want it to perform more to your liking. There'll be people who'll go, hey good pickups won't sound good in an average priced guitar, but that's just bullshit :D Well, anyway, i'd say, go for it!

Hmm..... let's see.... Something close to a real LP? Pop/rock type?
And since the cover's been waxed on, means that i have to change both pickups for the guitar to look normal i guess?

There are a variety from which you can choose from, if you're into duncans, a pair of 59s, or maybe 59/PG, or even a JB would be good choices to getting near that sorta sound. Best find a friend who has LP with aftermarket pickups to try out first, it makes pickup selection a little easier.

yes very..well you cant take the metal casing off la its been 'waxed' into the coil..

is that really?
so no way of putting a non cover humbucker and use back the cover?

if you wanna be slash like most people les pauls do, you should go for a seymour duncan super alnico II pro humbuckers.

Ah... I was thinking along the lines of 59 neck and JB bridge. Went to davis today. Was sianz to find out that the 59 cost 125 by itself while the JB is only 99. The 59 neck and bridge pair is about 169? And they dun have a 59 jb pair. wat a waste... meaning its going to be pretty ex if i stick to my config. In actual fact I only want to change the bridge, but if I cannot remove the covers from my stock pickups then i guess i have to change both pickups.... meaning a longer time to save up.

What about trying humbucker size P90?

Anyone has tried this before?

that's Seymour Duncan's Phat Cat, didn't make it this shipment, have advised Davis to bring it in the next time round + the Custom 5... 8)

that's right, Seymour Duncan has only certain pairings of selected models, these 'Matched Sets' as Duncan calls it, goes for less as oppossed to buying the models individually...

Sub, do you know which are the models they have on the pack offer? Cause i cant seem to find anything in the SD site....

Also, if i installed the JB in my LP, can i buy a PU cover from Davis to cover over the JB so that it wun look out of place if i never changed my neck PU

- Vintage Blues™ Set – is made up of a pair of calibrated SH-1 ’59 Model pickups for the neck and bridge positions. This set is based on the vintage P.A.F. humbuckers of the late ‘50s and is perfect for blues, jazz, and classic rock.
- Hot Rodded Humbucker™ Set – matches an SH-2n Jazz Model for the neck position with and an SH-4 JB Model for the bridge position. This is Seymour’s favorite humbucker set and is widely used for everything from aggressive blues-rock to metal.
- Distortion Mayhem™ Set – includes a duo of SH-6 Duncan Distortion humbuckers for the neck and bridge positions. This is an aggressive youth-oriented set, which was designed for the heaviest punk, metal, and hardcore guitar tones.
- California ‘50s™ Set – is a matched and calibrated set of SSL-1 Vintage Staggered pickups for Stratocaster® guitars. The pickups are authentic ‘50s reproduction Alnico 5 vintage single coils, and work great for surf, Country, blues and classic rock.
- Everything Axe™ Set – combines an SJBJ-1b JB Jr. for the bridge position with an SDBR-1n Duckbucker and SL59-1n Little ’59 for the middle and neck positions. This is an extremely versatile set that will coax everything from vintage to heavy tones from a Stratocaster. It works with all musical styles, and each of the pickups is hum canceling.

I believe there is a covered version of the JB as well.
Cheers!

The thing is, I eventually want to uncover both my pickups, installing a 59 in the neck and a Jb in the bridge, but right now since I dun have the cash, I was thinking of installing the JB first and getting a cover to cover it temporary. When i install the 59 then i will remove the cover for the JB. Is this possible?
