contribution to tone

I have been wondering about the contributions of the various components of an electric guitar to the overall sound (tone) that an electric guitar produces. I am interested in your opinions and if you are interested I ask you to list which is the greatest contributor to the character or tone of an electric guitar.

If you could, please place in order of most significant contribution to least significant contribution to tone for a solid body electric from the list below.

Body wood
Body shape
Finish (natural painted etc)
Pick ups
Neck (material and shape)
Fret board
Nut
Bridge
tuners
electronics
strings (gauge etc )

thanks

electronics - Difference btw Split Coil humbuckers and series hums? ;)

Pick ups

Body wood

Body shape - the less wood, the less impact the type of wood makes on the tone.

Finish (natural painted etc) - I like natural finishes because it has this woody tone to it.

Fret board - Maple is nice and punchy

Bridge - Bass to Steel to Graptech, makes a difference

strings (gauge etc )

Neck (material and shape)

Nut

tuners - This jsut contributes to tuning stability and accuracy...

everything contributes to tone, its just that for me, the tone doesn't get any better, and everything just gets worse, amp speaker dying, pickups weak, distortion crapy, fingers sloppy, pick worn out, heehee

Guys, he's asking specifically "about the contributions of the various components of an electric guitar to the overall sound (tone) that an electric guitar produces" .

Read the first post? ;)

but still shredcow its debatable..

without speakers no output..
no output no tone..

unless a kring kring sound is good enuf to judge ur tone..
well i dunno..

which one to alter? ur guitar or speakers, power amps, preamps to get ur desired tone?
definitely u need to plug in..from there u can work on ur desired tone..

erm in that case, the 2 most significant would be the body and the pickups? anw diverting a bit, if you dont have a str8 neck, den that will also greatly affect your tone

Ok sorry bout that. If strictly on the electric guitar alone, this would be my arrangement. Most influential to least, top down.

Pick ups

electronics

Body wood

Fret board

strings (gauge etc )

Body shape

Neck (material and shape)

Finish (natural painted etc)

Nut

Bridge

tuners

and to add on..he's asking about OVERALL tone that a guitar produces..
maybe he should not ask in that manner..

obviously the greatest contributor will be the speakers, followed by power amp and thirdly preamp..IMO

obviously u guys need to plug in to test ur tone..
how to judge ur tone like that?..is it the guitar or the speakers or...?
nevermind its just me..

good nite

Here's my take on this subject:

Body (Tone is dependant on the wood and shape used eg Alder is used on Strats which are double cutaway and Teles which are single cutaway, but both generate different tones)

Bridge (Tremolos, TOM, tailpieces, string-thru body etc)

Neck+Fingerboard

Strings

Pickups (they shape tone, not create them!)

Finish (Gloss, oiled or the thin finish used on guitars such as Ibanez SZ1220)

Electronics (for tonal versatility)

Nut

Tuners (the layout of tuners influence tone a little ie 6 per line (Strat) or 3 per side)
