Don't go into chords yet?
I believe the other way around.. Chords are extremely important..
Firstly, it greatly strengthens your fingers..
Second, you get yourself familiar with the fretboard, which is of great help in understanding movable chord shapes..
Third, it keeps you moving! Don't you like it when you can strum along to songs? Just practicing scales all day and all night will let you lose your drive in learning the guitar.. Playing some chords will make you feel pleased that you're actually making music.. Going up and down scales won't give you that same feeling, unless of course you're soloing instead of practicing scales..
