Hi gurus,

I've recently just bought a Samson C03U USB condenser mic and i've been playing ard with it for the past days. Is there no way i can hear myself while doing vocal recordings? and is there any settings somewhere where i can increase the echo? it sounds to clean and its kinda weird. pls help~ thanks

what OS?
Window Vista

what DAW ?
What's that?

what comp specs?
I'm using a Asus Notebook.
Intel Core2 duo P8600 @2.4Ghz
ATi Radeon HD3470 Graphic Card
4GB RAM

you using samson's own ASIO drivers or asio4all ?
I don't quite understand this as well.
when i bought the mic it comes with a free recording
software call SONAR 6 LE. I was told by the salesman
to download Audacity as well..

Sorry, i'm totally new to this. Thanks for helping anyway! Greatly appreciated! =)

Do you plug the mic direct to notebook? If not try that first. If can also remove any USB device while using that Mic.

@johnson86
A few reasons for drop-out:
1. Too many usb devices sharing. If I'm not wrong, usb devices share the same bus, up to 127.
2. Your pc hardware needs an upgrade (which is unlikely since you can run vista).
3. Cluttered OS, alot of stuffs running in the background. Try to close everything else before tracking.
4. IRQ mismatch. Saw it once on other forums. He got a new soundcard and it worked. I've no idea why.
5. Drivers. Install your drivers given by Samson.
6. SONAR LE? That's your DAW. You can:
a) Update the software to latest version
b) Set the DropoutMsec in the Aud.ini (from 250 to 500) Play around with the value. I heard it works for some.

Hope this can assist your troubleshooting. :)

johnson86 : i'll try help you out with your problem if it's still unsolved after the 23rd SBC gig. i'm on a break@MBS till then heheh. keep us updated.

Hi, i'm not sure if its my sound card as i do not have any other USB devices plug to my laptop accept the mouse and Mic.
Alright.. i'm trying to figure out how some ppl in youtube do recording with echos.. i click on echo but nth happens. hmm... not sure thou.. Maybe go simlim ask ard. maybe buy a external soundcard if there is. cheers =)

johnson86 :

1) have you installed the drivers according to the manual?
http://s3.amazonaws.com/samsontech/related_docs/C03U_OM_5L_v2.pdf

your OS / DAW / (Sonar LE) / Com specs should be all good to go.

2) please read this for "monitoring your recording" http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/Reader.aspx?ID=2005260
or tutorials such as this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcAtPmLtRns

3) do try to record without plugging in a USB mouse IN CASE it draws too much power or drains just above the requirement of your samson C03 USB.

4) if your dropout problem persists you should ask the shop you bought from because by right the product should work well with the software that comes together with it.

5) your echo issue is what we call "Plugins" or "VST" or "FX" where you can arm #Vocal Track > +echo effect > + other effects + "enable MONITOR input = so when you sing to the mic, you can hear yourself back on the headphones. etc

oh.. okay. let me try this out tonight. hopefully it works. =S i'll read that up as well. thanks blueprint! you're really helpful! cheers..

you're welcome, the others are helpful as well, infact more elaborate/detailed than mine, but I'm more "layman" and "if your situation doesn't pass my tests, the shop shouldn't have retailed it to you in the 1st place making you go through hell on your own".

gd luck!

yea. really appreciate the helps from you guys. a million thanks!

now i tried clicking on the echo button(hope thats the button you were mentioning earlier). i hear myself.. but super laggy. I only hear myself half a sec after i speak. zZz. dont really know whats going on thou. where as the echo button i clicked, nothing came out... goodness. is something wrong on my side or am i plain stupid? lol

"echo" button to hear yourself is "Monitor" not echo.
echo is the effect you're trying to apply on what you hear.
monitor is the process to hear what the mic hears.

and the "half a second" thing is called "Latency" whereas, you'll need to make configurations to your audio interface device settings to reduce that "latency". by the way if you're on msn, pls add me blueprintstudios.org(a)hotmail.com if we're both online + i'm free I'll try help you out over the net.

be patient and first try to solve it yourself if you can, read manual step by step and do it slowly, it gets fun from here on.

Nope, that is because I do not go to her iMac to solve this. Samson C03U USB is plug and play with no driver installation, there is nothing I can suggest to her. I only suggest to her to play when the latency setting, but I doubt much can be done.

I have a belief that if a product being sold is faulty or doesn't perform as easy as advertised, it should be recalled.
but if it's an isolated situation, and only a handful has problems, it could be because something went wrong in the setting up process on consumer's end. so johnson86 I don't believe in doing personal consultant for people with problems on SOFT, but I believe in not giving up cos I believe if I can solve your problem I will be able to solve many others who have USB mic products.

Hey guys,
When I was using c01u Samson condenser, I experienced latency both on GB and Logic.
I believe that it's due to the software monitoring (most of the time) and it's probably better to leave it alone and get a hardware monitoring such as an audio interface. That's my understanding of the latency, and correct me if I'm wrong.

One can try to reduce excessive latency by kicking in the RECORD button and stop it.
Somehow this works for me on GB. Still, there's a slight latency and my musician friends can tell.

Logic got its settings to minimize it, but somehow it tends to build up and the latency becomes unbearable.
