Condenser Mic loses sensitivity after prolonged use.

I'm using a Samson CL8 after some prolonged (3 hours continuous) use I noticed that the sensitivity has decreased drastically.

Is there something I should know with regards to microphone technology?

I just hope that the solution is to let the mic diaphragm "rest" and recover instead of me having to buy a new condenser mic as a result.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

unless it's a tube mic (personal rule : warm up 30 mins , max use 4 hrs)
my rode ntk has been reliable since 8 years ago from this practice.

but for your case... sorry man never heard of something like that before. it almost sounds like a technical fault. you may wanna bring it back to exchange or repair.

Hi Ron,

Upon further testing and inspection, I realised on the "Cardoid mode" somehow went faulty along the way. The other modes like figure 8 etc and are still working normally. I guess I'll have to settle with working on the other types of mic modes.

Thanks man! :D

Hmm interesting.no worries glad to be of some help.thanks for your experience with us in future I'd know how to troubleshoot such a problem or at least know what causes it.

Could it be the way you usually use it? Perhaps it's an environmental issue (humidity, dust, etc.) or perhaps prolonged use without a pop filter to keep out the excessive and "pop" sound waves?

if he dipped it into a cup of water, that would most likely be the possibility. anyway doubleblade has found the answer to his own problem
