have been having some problems with my computer lately. i just reformatted the whole thing, but now the display is quite... bad. It can only show me a max of 1024 x 768 pixels, but my computer's optimum display settings is 1280 x 800, being a widescreen laptop

anyone knows how to change it to a widescreen mode?

Install drivers for your graphics chip, which is probably Intel. Now it's using a standard driver from back in the 80s called VESA (or VGA more commonly and mistakenly) which is responsible for the maximum of 1024x768.
