Event Description
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Perspektif is proud to debut its first edition for the Cityscapes audio journal series, Design By Sound, to be held in conjunction with the Singapore Design Festival 2009 with a series of activities including a feature exhibition, artist talk and release party.
In collaboration with the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH), Cityscapes explores the influences of sound on perception, behavior, orientation, technology, space, time, mobility and movement to the visually handicapped. Singapore-based sound practitioners and visually impaired participants from the SAVH come together for a first-ever sonic collaboration. A synergism of two seemingly different, but not entirely separate cosmos, transpiring into a subtle recreation of the journeys undertaken by the visually impaired in Singapore through sound. Cityscapes offers fresh insights into the place-making projects of the visually impaired, opening up possibilities for redefining the relationship between sound and design.
Brilliantly crafted and designed by Belgian-born designer, Tom Merckx, the limited 100 audio journals, Cityscapes - Design By Sound, showcases the musical finesse of 7 Singapore-based sound practitioners - sonicbrat, Randolf Arriola, mux, Eswandy Sarip, Kamal Lufti, Johnson Zhang and Mark Wong. More significantly, the audio journal features renowned sound designer, Michael Fakesch, one half of Germany's premier mercurial electronic act, Funkstörung, in the form of a bonus sound piece, complete with rare insights and documentations of his creative approach towards sound design.
A portion of the profits from the sales of the journals will be given to the SAVH. The audio journals are available for pre-order on the Cityscapes website, www.cityscapes.sg, from 20th - 30th November 2009. The official launch for the audio journal will be held on 26th November 2009, Thursday, at the City Hall Building. The launch will also be the official opening of the feature exhibition which will run from 27th - 30th November 2009. Monday.
