Choosing a guitar

ok from the other thread i assume u wanted a non-electric guitar.
some tips:
1.size does matters. Usually the bigger its is the better the sound
2.Try to get solid top guitars, as they age , they sound even mellower.
3.The action, or the height of the strings from the fretboard. I was once a newbie and i got pretty pissed with the damn high action of my acoustic. It hurts ur fingers alot especially when ur still green.
4.I'm not so sure about the brands. Just go for the big brands and make sure its not made in china.

IMHO
classical is more for plucking and picking stuff like that and it uses nylon strings.
Acoustic is more for strumming , and more importantly SINGING along with it.If u cant sing..... i think its quite meaningless. Normally it uses steel strings, which can be quite tough on ur fingers.

so there ya go

eh i use my made in china squier many many times ok. i like it.. .. all the recordings i use.. why cannot china? china boleh! :D

acoustic are not just for strumming...nor classical for plucking..
lotsa bands use nylon stringed guitars..and some jazz players prefer to use nylon string..and i dunt mean bossa novas, Incognito is one..
for acoustic ..take a look at kaki king, michael hedges, tommy emanuel, antonio forcione, leo kotte ..etc etc :D

You would want to check the wood too. Look at the edge of the sound hole, an see if the wood covers the edge, or is it plied on.

Solid wood guitars give better sound, but warps more easily if you live in humid conditions... haha like here.

Check the frets for any depressions!

You might want to buy a tuning fork too.

ok i know it's common sense but choosing guitar most important is FEEL  a 1k fender does not means u will like the way it is you know.. maybe u will be more comfortable wif a 100 yamaha den a 1k fender.. its all FEEL!! FEEL!!!!!!!!!!

I don't believe there is a 'best wood' for guitar, different combinations of woods have different effects on the type of sound produced and such. Dependent on your style of music, you'd want to search for something that matches well.

You have to read up abt the guitar or ask the salesperson what type of wood is it i guess.

All types of wood got diff purpose like what pooo had said... Its not like a game, where best sword pwns all. Don't apply to music =P

I don't really agree on the MADE IN CHINA part too. lotsa made in china guitars are good for beginners especially. they are value for money and do not equate to low quality and bad sound. always remember tone is in your fingers, i bet any artist out there could make a made in china guitar sound good. Also, it doesn't mean that if you can't sing, its meaningless to play the acoustic guitar. Acoustic guitars can be used for fingerstyle or many other applications.

Agreed. Listen to Jamie Bonk, Jesse Cook, Eric Johnson. All wonderful acoustic players.

Made in China okz mah!
Lots of my stuff are made in china, including of my Genes, Jeans, etc etc.

Besides, as long as 25% of any thingie is made, designed or produce in tat country it can be said to be made in that country...

At least the ppl who say their stuff is made in China are truthful?

Also like to say something tat most sound engineers always say....
As long as it sound good, it is good....Donch care made in where =)

Right on!

Whatever it is, some China guitars are really good for a start. I must say the technology for mass-produced China guitars has improved greatly over the years.
