change the humbuckers?

hi...i'm a newbie to guitar and i'm getting my first guitar tommorow. the guitar was much cheaper than i thought, and now that i've got some extra cash, i'm wondering if i should change the humbuckers?

i'm getting an epiphone g-310, and after some thought i was thinking of changing the humbuckers to some emg's. if i'm changing the humbuckers, should i put in emg 85's, emg 81's, or one in each position?

i'm (planning to be) the rhythm guitarist and i listen to fall out boy/yellowcard and probably want to play stuff along that genre.

thanks in advance. =)

If U r a beginner, may I suggest you save the pick ups $$ and use it to invest in guitar effects (if you dont have them that is).

u have a guitar tomorow, would u have an amp? nyehe. or like fgl said, effects.

for ur qn, emg 81/85 are very high output pickups. so...wouldnt think its suitable for the genre u play.

arg. my guitar didn't come today. should be coming by the end of the week though. i'm going to get my laney amp as soon as i get my guitar. =)

anyway, how about putting a duncan jb sh-4 in the bridge and a duncan distortion sh-6 in the neck? is that more suitable for playing pop punk?

yup, better use passive pickups..it's better for tonal control..

IMO swapping pickups is only wise if you have a capable amp to manifest the tonal difference, otherwise, it's an exercise in futility...

Save the cash. You might need it later, just in case.

The Duncan JB is also a high-output humbucker, more for hard rock / metal stuff, though it can actually do cleans, slight overdrive, jazz, blues, etc too. If you're gonna play Yellowcard stuff, perhaps for added versatility use a JB in the bridge (you'll never know when you might need it) and a P-90 in the neck (its a humbucker-sized singlecoil).

+1. I also find that if if you already like the guitar's tone, there's no point in changing the pickups because you might not like its 'new' tone. I don't advice a change in pickups just yet.

+1 too..yeah, it's better for u to change it to SD JB..that's more than enough actually..
