Chambered Bodies

Hi softies... i am rather new to electric guitars and i am looking forward to my first epiphone les paul soon.

however, i notice a feature of some les pauls that is that they have chambered bodies. So what in the world does that mean and how does it affect the playability and tone of the guitar?

thanks people

it's just a way by gibson to reduce weight so they don't have to use the 'better' lightweight mahogany, and can use heavier kinds instead, keeping the lighter ones for custom shop models which are unchambered in nature
