Can the 31GE really compensate for acoustic loss??

Hi,
Really wonder about the 31 band Graphics EQ, heard it can compensate loss for lousy room acoustics. Can it really do that and bring about a recording quality close to that of a Psychoacoustically done room???

definitely it can't no matter how hard u try...acoustics is a broad subject..many different things to consider for good acoustics..an ideal acoustically done room involve many factors..i got this from my fren's notes

shape and size of room,

the standing waves and the fundamental frequency calculations,
absorption coefficients of the surface(amount of sound energy and surface absorbs and reflects eg. If your room is too dead in the high frequencies the instrument sounds lifeless, whereas if it's too lively in the high frequencies the instrument sounds distant and has no presence.

diffusion of the room..

and many more if u read up on your own..its involves the surface of ur wall..the height of the ceiling and how far are the side walls have an effect on natural reverberation..

so if ur room is lousy..its becos of many factors and u cant juz correct it by EQ-ing..

those are theory. with a lousy room, maybe you can create some new sound!

or maybe not :p

anyway, what kind of stuff are you recording? usually such 'tuned' rooms are for recording choir, acoustic set or Celine Dion.

Acoustics are not so critical in the tracking room. They usually just require a room without too much resonance or standing waves, usually dead unless for orchestras or some choirs. Its more critical in the control room when you are mixing.

Using equalisers in the monitoring chain won't work well.It used to be a fad in the past but not so now.

Using eqs will help to eq a spot only.Shift ur head slighty and you get worse acoustics.Usually worse than you started of with.People use it to tune monitors. Not the room.Thats what they are used for in the studio's monitoring chain.

Do use acoustic treament if you are serious and you can use a room for ur control. As the old saying goes, "equalising a room with poor acoustics gives you an equalized room with poor acoustics."

check dis out parablue74..it'll help.

i wonder how to require a room without too much standing waves and resonance. For sure it is thru calculations. So its equally critical in the studio and in the control room if u wanna make good quality recordings. Do take note dat acoustics for live drum sound is totally different from acoustics for a vocal. Its not the same. U might want to isolate the drums from the rest.
