If say I go to NY and get a guitar, what kind of taxes will I expect to pay when I bring it back to singapore along with my luggage? Roughly how much?
Thanks.

no need to pay or anything.
just down tell the customs that u bought it there.

quiet quiet and bring it.

thats what i did when i bought my guit overseas too. just bring it in.
AND DONT ACT SUSPICIOUS.

Should be just GST, but normally don't need lah, just take it out of the packaging and act like you've owned the guitar since forever lor hahaha.

yeah no issues at all.
I used to live in the US and brought guitars back all the time for friends and myself.

However i suggest if you're going to travel somehwere else other than NY, get it there. coz NY tax (similar to GST) is 12.5% now i believe.

and it could really add up if the guitar price is high already.

Thanks guys, I'll do my calculation and see if it's worth it.
Another question : is it possible to hand-carry it?

ive never had a problem hand carrying guitars on numerous occasions, but the one time i decided to check in a guitar in a hardcase customs decided to smash the latch off to open it. go figure...after months of emails calls and general harrasment they compensated me for the damage, definately not worth the aggravation though.
