Budget Condenser Mics?

Started a discussion here: Cheap or expensive mics to be used in "home" environment recordings.

For many of us recording at home, due to "home environment" conditions which usually forbides a good isolated recording. Therefore a budget mic suffice in such a situation compared to expensive mics which are overbought under such circumstances.

Also with many cheap budget mics surfacing nowadays, do we still need the more expensive stuffs for the color that we want to capture or will a cheap one just do at home?

Just want to bring to attention that there are two budget mics on the way and see if anyone has used them and wishes to post comments on them recording in "home" environment:

Behringer C-1 (Listed $80 SGD)

StudioProjects B-1 (Listed US$99)

I am sure many budget makes will come their way for a share in the market. What are your comments on these budget mics?

With so many cheaper equipment around, do u think that a budget setup (mic-preamp-computer soundcard) could yield a respectable demo recording at home?

I personally have not tried the SP B1.

i wonder how versitile this mic really is, on vocals and other instruments miKing.

Regards.

may i know where are the best places to purchase such mics in Singapore?

Particularly - Studio Projects, Rode and Marshall MXL... who are the local dealers? (I've heard Hung Brothers for Rode? - any other dealers?)

Trektech AV is carrying Rode and blue. Great stuff. Hung Bros can suck you dry. Although i think their KRK Rokit 5s are quite reasonably priced. Haven't see other prices though.

hmm would the b1 be suitable for a live stage setup? both vocals and instruments?
how much is it going now dya guys know?

haven't heard any local dealers for Marshall MXL and SP. but i believe for SP u can try Brill Impact. thats the agent listed at SP's website i believe. but price wise they are a little steep. might be better off for you to just order from audiomidi.com...which i am doing for the marshalls...cheers.

thanks for the info, I eventually decided to go for Rode since the local prices are good compared to US$ list prices.

I've also borrowed a Behringer B-1 to try out. For the price, cannot complain, but i find it has a significant upper-mid/high frequency boost.
