BOSS Adapter

Boss adaptor

Hi Edmund,

You don't have to get specifically BOSS adaptor for BOSS products. You can go to any hardware store and show them the electrical specifications and get the adaptor instead.

BOSS products use 9V DC input. Get one with a higher resistance. More costly but you can play for a longer period.

Careful with buying non-Boss adaptors though, these adaptors are not shielded or something, so it causes noticeable hum when used with certain pedals. The one I had hummed with my CH-1. Adaptors meant for musical instruments are made not to hum, which is why they cost more.

That said, some compatible adaptors are decent and won't give much hum, but you won't know till you try. If you are getting one, look for one with higher current capacity - most cheaper ones give you 200+ mA, but considering that some pedals like Delay will take at least 70mA, you should go for an adaptor that outputs more than 300 mA so you can power more pedals safely.

Here's a link to calculate how much power your rig draws (click on the brand of the pedals you have, add up the total current requirement of your pedals):

If you wanna know more about pedal powering, read this:

Hope that helps.
