Boon Gee drum clinic

The clinic does look like its just focusing on the very basics of drumming, but it wouldnt hurt to reinforce your basics from time to time. Plus there may be crucial tips that could really help your basics.....

Haha Plainsman, Boon Gee's a very nice guy, he wont scold people. And I'm sure he'd be happy to offer tips as long as it doesnt disrupt the flow of main theme of the clinic.... :D

Yup Boon Gee's a drummer who I respect very much, his drumming is awesome. I'd recommend any interested parties to check out his clinic.... I would likely be turning up too!

hehe bor, yahh i know, he's a great guy and we chat a bit every time we meet, but its usually not about drums

guess i have a few qns which run more along the lines of: his thoughts on grip (especially trad), his approach to trading fours etc. thing is, i don't wanna take his time and attention away from folks who wld be better served by him being able to focus on the clinic outline at hand.

maybe i'll grab him one of these days for a one-on-one (over coffee???) haha

cheers!!

Hi all, I've contacted anaki records about the clinic. Its basically a one hour long session and yes, its strictly for beginners, and they charge $5 for an entry drink, fully refundable if you choose to take lessons from them.

Plainsman, you could try looking Boon Gee up at Jazz@Southbridge as he plays there almost every evening. You could 'poach' him between his sets during the breaks, buy him a drink and have a good chat  Once he was kind enough to spend about half an hour speaking to me and giving me some tips... I doubt there's enough time and space at the clinic to raise the questions you mentioned haha...

Oh yes, as far as i know, I've always seen Boon Gee play matched grip, quite rare for a jazz drummer. Not too sure if he's proficient in trad grip but heck he gets the job well done in matched grip so no issues for me :D

I talk to Boon Gee about tradition grip. He says he don't usually use traditional grip. He's more comfortable with match grip. He's a really nice guy. A very very humble drummer. *salute

Yes Boon Gee is a nice bro and a good jazz drummer, but this Clinic is really for Begeinners only lah - Plainsman you dont need to go there.

Think must telephone-call Boon Gee lah hahahaha

Hey I worked with him many times before for gigs, he's the NICEST dude and the BADDEST of the drummers - a true pro

cheers

For those who are going or who intend to go, this is what he'll likely be covering.

Style - mainly rock groove with some variation of bass/snare beats.

Rudiments - Single stroke, double stroke, paradiddle(normal, inverted, inward, outward), five strokes roll.

Reading simple notations. Understanding eighth note and 16th note. Different kind of fill ins.

For those who's keen in learning from him, he can teach rock, jazz, latin, afro cuban etc.

yeah anaki studios, check out their site or can email them if you've got inquiries. they've been getting pretty good reviews. can ask killerbee, she's jammed there before.

Thank You

Hi,

Just wanna say a big thank you to those that responded and came by for the clinic, hope there's something gotten out of it. I'm new at such things, so apologies if it was kinda choppy and all.

And yup, am teaching at anaki. If anyone is interested for lessons, or even jamming, do email or call anaki. By the way, there will be another round of clinic/workshops coming up in September at anaki, more info will be coming. Meanwhile, if anyone interested can call the studio and check. The contact infos are at the bottom.

Thanks again. Cheers.
Boon Gee
