Bone Nut on Electric Guitar?

Hi there,

has anyone installed a Bone Nut on an electric guitar, or have an electric with a bone nut? Would you like to share your thoughts on the nut?

i've just gotten mine installed by Maestro, but would like to hear some opinions before I give mine.

erm ... i think the nut makes a minor difference compared to a change in pickups , body wood and neck wood.

but my experience with bone is that they seem to give a slightly clearer tone. and if well lubricated and slotted , will not grab the strings and cause tuning problems.

well, the thing is, my strat is currently shielded, changed one pot, changed 2 pups, changed to graphtech saddles, and now changed nut (cos it broke.) i can't recall the original tone at all!

from what i read, nut material may not make such a big difference, but the worksmanship can affect the guitar extremely significantly.

a bit of what i experienced: clearer, a little more sustain, a bit more chime for some reason.

i was deciding on tusq vs bone, and i decided on the latter because most acoustic players prefer (quality) bone from what i researched online. thought it'd be a bit more interesting.

I used to use a lot of bone nuts but I find tusq of equal quality now so use them more... hardly any dinstiction between tusq and bone nuts...plus tusq q ready cut and curved - easier to install

Yup, but for acoustic, I prefer fosilized ivory which sounds very good in my book.

Personally, I think the bridge material affects more than the nut.

Had a bone nut for my classical sounded good - had a graph tech for my accoutic sounded better so...???

foz ivory - wah ex man
