ANYBODY who knows me knows that I love The Beatles‘ music and I’ll make any excuse to talk about them. So here’s another unabashed posting about the Fab Four. Kinda.
I recently had the opportunity to talk to Billy Sheehan (pictured above), one of the top rock bass players around. Best known for his work with Mr Big, Sheehan has also performed with Steve Vai, Talas, Niacin and his solo work isn’t too shoddy either!
loveThelovebassist will be in town with the reunited Mr Biglove- Paul Gilbert, Eric Martin and Pat Torpey – for a concert on Oct 18 at Fort Canning Park.
Apart from talking about the reunion tour, we got to talking about their big hit, To Be With You, which in turn, led to talk about The Beatles, whom Sheehan said was one of his influences. Here’s an excerpt:
TODAY: So To Be With You was a big hit here in Singapore, and it’s also one of the more popular karaoke songs here. But what would be your favourite karaoke song to sing?
BILLY SHEEHAN:love Probably The Beatles.
TODAY: Really? Which one?
BILLY SHEEHAN: Oh, I don’t which one – I know them all.
TODAY: Speaking of The Beatles, the Beatles Rock Band game was recently released. Are you going to get it?
BILLY SHEEHAN: I don’t know if I’m getting it, I’m sure I’ll see it around. It’s nice to see The Beatles music learned and known by more people – that’s a good thing.
love
TODAY: I read that you were influenced by the band. Is that true?
BILLY SHEEHAN: Oh, absolutely!
TODAY: How so?
BILLY SHEEHAN: Oh, in every way possible. There are a million reasons. The fact that they had four people; the fact that they were one of the first bands to write their own songs. Before The Beatles, I don’t think a lot of bands wrote their own songs. The Beatles and Bob Dylan were probably the first artistes to make (self-compositions) popular. And the fact that their different styles they played – from pop to some awesome progressive stuff; the fact that they all sang; the fact that they were just brilliant! I mean, Paul Mccartney’s bass playing is so amazing!
The “amazing” Paul McCartney
Well, apparently Paul’s amazing bass playing can’t hold a candle to the Rock Band game, either, with the icon saying that it’s a bit too hard to handle. Funny, because the game was transcribed from Paul’s own playing. And if that’s the case, what does that mean for the rest of us?
