Best strings

what do you think is the best brand of strings? right now i´ve got ghs strings on both my acoustic and electric, but i´m pretty interested in ernies...

Ernie balls are ok, but it’s one of the brands I first gave up using (together with D’addario)- the ‘slinky’ doesn’t last long enough. Everyone gets excited when they first try a set because of the ‘slinky’ feel, it’s so crisp, it’s addictive.

I’m with GHS for most of my guitars, because they last as long as those cryogenic strings & they are the most comfortable for me. So at the end of it all, it’s strictly personal.

I’m also using the DR Extra Life set because it lasts forever (personal record of 11 weeks without replacement) but eventually these have to be replaced because the black coating flakes off… I’m reverting to the SIT steel set for some of my guitars, old habits die hard I guess…

Used to be a Ernie Ball and D´addario user too. Both are good but they don´t seem to last very long IMO. Now I´m using GHS Boomers, great tone, nice feel and lasts very long. I´ve tried Elixir strings for electrics. They last darn long, but its very pricey and I don´t think its worth it paying the xtra money for the xtra lasting effect. I´m using 09s on one of my electrics and 10s on the other. The 09s are great for solos, shredding etc and the 10s are great for blues, jazz, great sustain.

As for acoustics, I used to use D´addarios, and they still work fine for me I guess, except for the occasional treat, I´ll get a Martin or Elixir, again, its up to personal preference whether you think paying the xtra $$ is worth it when u get the Elixirs. Yes, Best strings out there, most lastings, but comes with a hefty (for strings la..) price.

I recently tried DR strings and I was definately amazed by its tone. Its handwound strings (i presume?). I haven´t really committed to the brand though, I tried the Black coated strings on my guitar and when I gigged last months, everyone thought there were no strings on my guitar, like... floating of the fingerboard kinda thing... pretty cool...

DR strings totally rule. Their normal ones "Tite-Fit" lasts the longest for me. Tone wise, it´s great when it´s new and still nice when it´s worned. Best of all, it feels more "broken in" after u´ve used it for some time.

Superb. DR DR DR!

hmm okay so it looks like i can happily stick to my current strings. yea boomers sound great on my electric, but i use the one with very light gauges, only 008. great for bending, but 009s, which i use on my other electric, are probably the best gauge imo.

for the acoustic i use extra bright strings, and yes they do sound extra bright, maybe too bright, but they´re good as well.

Bought a set of ESP strings over the weekend- quite impressive. They feel like D’addarios but last longer. Every pack comes with an extra thinnest string (eg: 9s will come with an extra .009)…

What´s up?

9 too thin lah, bend once and the string break liao....juz started using 11 - 50 ....luv it...thinking of going to 12 - 52 and maybe eventually 13 - 54 probably need a few weeks more b4 changing

Too bad DR Extra doesn´t come with 11 -50 or else I would use it...last longer...I got real sweaty palms....using GHS and

D’addario now

I used to go with 11s but I think I’m more fond of 9s these days.

Oh, along with the previously mentioned ESP strings, I tried the Peaveys as well. Although theys are 9s, they have a slightly higher tension, so I have to tweak my trem spring to keep my floating whammy in a neutral position… they feel like the DRs… dunno if they’ll last as long though…

damn! i bought a new set of GHS boomers, and two of them are rusted. the high e and B strings... they´re rusted at some parts only though. i wonder why.

gonna see if i can change them soon though. if i can´t i´ll never buy ghss again. grr.

hold your horses- it´s not the manufacturer´s fault. sometimes buyers insist they look inside the package but at the end of the inspection, they ended up NOT buying the product. this way, the strings are exposed to moisture...

i´ve had similar experiences with other string brands, notably ernie balls. d´addario went the smart way by sealing the strings in a single plastic packet so it´s either you buy them or you leave the store...

hmm i went to swee lee to ask about it, the guy said it was too much potassium or something coated in the string... so some parts turned brownish. and he says it´s still usable, doesn´t affect the sound.

i guess i can live with that haha.

What´s up?

Me juz strung up a set of 10 - 46 Boomers B52´s....find that the set is not as bright as the regular boomers and the set feels very much like it has been on my guitar for a few days already when I first got it on. And it seemsto me taht the B52´s have a slightly higher tension than the normal boomers....not quite sure about this but if felt like it. Overall not a bad set of strings...wonder how long it will last....

yeah, same thing happened to the boomers... anyway the boomers dun appeal to me.. bend one time broke.... fav is still blue steel or d´add.. 0.9 - 46 custom lite... used to have ernies and even stay in tune strings...eeek.... no way.

DAddario or GHS. Elixirs are a nice touch, but even though I don´t have sweaty palms, they are still too darn slippery.

My fave strings are Martin SP series for electrics. I usually get the 10s. They are pretty longlasting and provide good sustain. I also use Matin Marquis for my acoustic guitars. I have a set of D'Addario 10s (EX110 I think with a wound G string) on my Strat and so far it feels and play good.
