hi any of u softies can intro me a nice portable amp. probably small like a roland cube so i can bring to my fren hse easily to jam? songs we play are usually like from We The Kings, Yellowcard and maybe some old classics like highway star and smoke on water. any sugeestions or reviews to help me make my decision?

Dude you actually suggested something in your quetion. Marshall ministack is okay too. Then Sounddrive has a miniamp if i'm not wrong. bear in mind it's low wattage. really low.

If it helps... Yellowcard uses Messa amps :P. By portable i think you mean low wattage amps? Cause even those huge stacks are portable >:).

Never really was a fan of Roland, get a Randall Ninja, or a Laney LG series. Or... you could go Line 6, so many choices tsk tsk tsk.

Whatever the case, LIFE OF A SALESMAN FTW!

but i find 15w and 30w very loud for HDB. anyway low watt means low volume only right?

Don't judge a book by it's cover. My friends Fender 8W amp is LOWD

hmm by portable, i meant easy to carry. like maybe < 5kg would be nice. the randal ninja looks big and heavy. haha

Well.... if weight is THAT BIG OF A DEAL to you, then i suggest you go down to Bras Basah, go to Swee Lee and ask them to let you carry the low wattage amps. After that go down to Davis and all the other guitar shops there and ask if you can carry THEIR low wattage amps and see which one 'feels' right irregardless of sound.

Aside from that sarcasticly stupid comment, would an extra kg really hurt that bad if you were to get a better sound and a more enjoyable 'jam session'? :(

Haha bro, was joking :P. Hahaha, i'm guessing you're looking for solid state amps then? Well, if you have pedals for your distortion and all, just get a normal amp with effects like delay and all UNLESS you have what you need pedal wise :).

HOWEVER, if you've got none, then get a Line 6 or Roland, although i'm more inclined towards Line 6, never liked Rolands :P. Budget?

Mostly portable amps have built in distortion which is inadequate for your music. You may want to reconsider. And it sucks battery like whoa.

@lemonade93: Yah get a 1W full tube combo amp or something. That'd be fun.

budget maybe around $180-$200. was thinking of line 6 micro spider. hmmm full tube combo amp? 1W? whats that. sry im a guitar noob :(

Must it be battery powered? Cause i would THINK lah, that his friends house has Electricity :P.

Again, pedals? Budget? Presence and/or absence of Electricity? So many variables mmhmmhmmm :)

Eh thought most portable amps have ac plug. hmm not planning to get pedals. planning to jus make do with guitar's distortion. and what do u mean by presence / absence of electricity.? my hse has electricity and so does my fren hse. so i guess it's presence? lolol

Amp power. Secondary school physics! (if you ever took it). You can't ask us to choose for you. You already have all the recommendations, go down with your guitar and try out the amps...

Spider IV 15

The spider is more expensive but the IV 15 is 10 lbs heavier but i'm guessing would sound better soooo it's totally up to you :) Both within budget

I think the Spider IV 15's distortion is passable lah, as compared to other amps i've tried :)

Most people look out for portable amps on the basis that it can run on battery power, thus negating the need for a powerpoint to plug in and use. If you're looking for an amp that can plug in and use, but not the 100W stack kind, you're looking more for practice amp than portable amp then.
Difference is practice amps mostly cannot run on batteries while protable ones can. And portable ones are really low wattage (say 5-10?) while practice amps an go from 10-30 watts.
