hi all..i have just bought my first guitar 3 days ago, it is an electric guitar...so far, i am able to play the intro of 'more than words' and 'wake me up when september ends'. however i feel like i am not progressing...i mean i learn those songs through youtube and i won't be able to understand the tabs of those songs..i know how to read tabs but sometimes the tabs are so complicated. also i think my finger co-ordination sucks...please gimme some tips, advice or any websites..thanks

what do you mean complicated? u have ur answers (the tabs) infront of you, then i'd suggest you get into it. start slow. make sure you finish one song before going to another. don't go "hey intro seems easy, oh no middle part difficult, do another song la". dont. i'm sure wake me up when september ends is one of the very easy songs in guitar. finish it.

remember, you can't rely on tabs forever. cherish this moment of beginnings that should give you the excuse to tabs. look forward to figuring out songs yourself.

bad finger coordination?
try playing chromatic scale all day in different patterns.

Dude, honestly, go learn your chords. That'll help finger coordination. Most songs require chords, even if they are power chords. Play good riddance(time of your life) by green day and fall for you by secondhand serenade. Two of the easiest songs to start with.

I noticed that you actually asked to play minor scales. That means you know the importance of scales. The secret is...
1. Play slow and relax
If you can play slow in a relax manner, you will have no problem playing faster. Do not rush for speed first. Get the notes right. Memorise it if possible.
Articulation will come as you develop your skills. Check that your other parts of your muscles are not tensed up as you play. Extra muscle movement will hinder your progress.
2. Speed development
Play your scales (whatever you know) in different timings. For example, if you play C major scale, play it in 4/4 timing, 3/4 timing and dotted rhythm. You will have difficulty at first. But do it slow in a relaxed manner.
3. Get a teacher.
There are so many things to learn.... They can tell you what is good or bad practices. Of course i believe most of us are willing to share the correct methods of practice.
