MM Sabre is no longer in production and it's really rare. I've played a 28 yr-old last week and the sound was awesome except the condition is quite bad. One of the control knob is not functioning. What say we just stick to the options given above? Cheers.

are u just gonna bring in the humbuckers or the whole bass? cuz i tink it would really be nice if we could have a g & l distributor here..i really wanna try it!! so i'll give my vote to g & l

actually we do. yamaha music singapore is the defacto distributor of both the tribute and G&L line here in singapore. just that they feel convinced that G&L is a "slow-mover" and "insufficient market demand" for more G&Ls and have determined that singapore will at the moment, have only the tribute range of G&Ls, which are , nonetheless pretty good basses (IMHO)

.

imho, i cannot place the double bucker sound on anything. perhaps i'm too attuned to the more 'regular' and 'identifiable' standard tones of the precision, jazz and SR. for what its worth, the sabre is tremendously loud and the neck hum puts a stop to the bite of the bridge hum, adding a more even tone to it. when the bridge hum is isolated, it does not sound like a SR at all. it seems that the sabre pickups are smaller than a SR.

it is also the heaviest bass in my arsenal.

i'm still trying to setup the damn thing. frets 1-7 are worn down, current action is high to avoid the buzz.

since i'm getting new TI powerbass strings from cherns, will do setup then.

also, i now realise the wonders of that microtilt system in the 3 bolt neck joint.

When Leo Fender was at Musicman, he made the humbuckers, when he started GnL, he continued using the humbucking technology.

interesting... mr fender's a heck of a genius. sg yamaha distributes us g&l?

Mr Fender conceived the 3 most popular pickups emulated by almost all manufacturers to-date ... if you want to put into context .. he's the father of electronic pickups ...

did he create the strat pickups too? that would make it 4. 5 if you consider guitar humbuckers to be 2 glued single coils.

alright.. oh well.

If you can, try those basses out anyway first! i've played a friend's bongo 5.. not sure if that is similar to a stingray h/h.. but if it is, then its pretty solid man, if you dont dig in too much, it sounds very clear and articulate... (but its really hard to define a sound since everyone has a prefered EQ setting.. haha)

Hey slap. I've tried one Bongo 5 myself too but it was quite muddy and didn't sound too articulate like you've mentioned. In fact it had so much low end making it sound much like a Warwick Thumb 5 (haven't tried other Warwicks). Perhaps I didn't spend enuff time with the EQs.
