There's really a limit to what kind of basses you can get at an entry level price range. The best brand for entry level stuff might probably be SX basses - don't know where to buy them here tho.

I'd suggest that you save up a bit more so that you can afford a mid-level/upper mid level bass. That might actually inspire you to put in that little more time in your practice, inspire you to play a great riff... you get the idea :D

BTW - what kinda bass are you looking to buy?

For entry level basses, there really isn't any with big brand names.

For between $170 and $250, you can get a host of entry level basses from copy brands such TGM, Suzuki and Craftsman.

They can be bought at Davis at Peninsula Shopping Centre, Ranking Sports at Bras Basah Complex, City Music at peace Centre, Edsden Trading at Sim Lim Square and some smaller guitar shops like the one at the basement at Parklane Mall or Wee Lee music studio at Geylang.

In fact, there are many cheap new basses out there and it's a matter of preference between any one of these copy brands. As for bass amps, most start from around $200. Or you can pick up a bass package (bass + amp) at Swee Lee for around $500 ro thereabouts.

I myself bought a Suzuki bass ( a Fender P-bass copy) for only $177 at Esden Trading. It works fine and even my bass-playng friend (who owns a couple of 4-figure basses) finds it good.[/code]

WEllll dun buy craftsman's bass it sux totally though its cheap haha. Try yamaha its good theres some good entry models for 300 plus the rbx series yea.

Hi,

I think SX basses can be found at D'Music Gear. Its at one of those places at Dhoby Ghaut, either Peace Center or Parklane, one level above Guitar Gallery if I'm not wrong.

There's a huge megathread on SX basses over at www.talkbass.com in the Bass Guitars section. Might want to read it, so far everyone's in agreement over how good value it is for money, won't know until you try it I suppose.

Thanks

Er...Swee Lee is not at Peace Centre. They are at Bras Basah Complex.

I was at Parklane Mall and visited the shop next to Guitar Gallery. They have an Epiphone Bass package comprising an Epi EB-0 Bass ( a shorter scale 30" 4-string bass with an SG body) and amp plus accessories for $449.

Also saw some SX basses and guitars at the music shop on Level 3 (can't remember the name).

Other entry level basses to consider are those from the Aria and Samick brands. Actually most of them are ok for beginners and if you're starting out, get one of these entry level basses and find out whether you're cut out for bass. If the interest and passion is still there one year later, then save up for a better bass.

BTW, Peace Centre is next to Parklane Mall, along Selegie Road.

ah cool ... thanks alot guys !!

btw chimera !! where u get ya 2nd hand guitar from ? ask around in the shops ? waddyaa think of e yamaha guitar in e earlier posts ? anything goes for me ... wanna get sometihng tt is value for money and like can progress to when become more advanced la ... ? thanks alot guys ! :D

u go to luthermusic.com go to the classifieds section, theres a bass section there. Personally i like the microbass as a very2 good practice bass, its 200 sgd new at sweelee or yeah 2nd ard 100-150, big sound from a small package. U juz be patient n see wat ppl selling there. TTs wat i do all my gear is second hand from my most ex purchase my prs to my most inexpensive the fender bass,... maximizing the utility of my cash.
I had a 2nd hand yamaha bb450 before, it has p-j pickups but i dun like the neck, n its heavy so i did a trade 1 on1 for the fender. the rbx series is quite nice tried it before but for yamaha i prefer the bb series or the attitude series.

i have a yamaha BBG4AII bass for sale..its an alder body/maple neck/24fret rosewood fingerboard, and 2 active soapbar pickups. its finished in a beautiful transparent amber with a photoflame-maple top,you can see pics of it here: http://d148005.u55.dh.com.sg/yamahabbg1.jpg and http://d148005.u55.dh.com.sg/yamahabbg2.jpg

im selling this at $400,which is probably a little over your budget, but i think thats a good price for a mid-level bass which will go further for you compared to any entry-level basses you might be considering. the active pickups give great and versatile tones, the neck is easy playing and the construction is SOLID,compared to alot of mexi/squier/yamaha basses ive tried.

haha well if you're interested drop me an email at nowherecatastrophe@hotmail.com and we can try to work something out...thanks
