Bass Triads help

Hey... Got question here..

Er.. About the bass chords(triads)...

Do you actually play the triads in sequence(arpeggios)??

Or do you strum it??

And, is it possible to actually strum the bass???

Thanx again for your time to view this thread....

gd question..i'd like to noe too..aniwae.ermm..there's diz guy..i once read that he actually strummed his bass..so..yea.hell.its sucks being a starter.cos i noe nothing..

you want to hear crazy bass strumming go listen to Abraham Laboriel ... he makes it sound sooo easy man ...

anyway ... bass strumming is possible ... i'm a guitarist-turned-bassist .. so i applied whatever i learnt on the guitar back to my bass and i became quite guitaristic in that sense ...

few things to note before you start .. learn chordal theory and how chords are formed ... all your extensions and stuff and modal theory also ... after that just apply it back the bass .. there are many ways to play chords so i guess you can try to experiment with them all ..

we should have a noobie club . then after that a amateur club .. then after that a professional club.. then we can have a community of bassists with ranks and stuff .. hahahahs ..

and i will forever be stuck at the bottom..still not knowing anyting.i got a severe case of attention deficit disorder.so..dun expect me to like..i dunno.im a sucker.

i did it before .. my fingernails flaked after that .. thankfully as a guy i don't really care about my nails .. no manicures whatsoever .. just whack lah .. it's like taking your nails and using a grinder to grind it to powder .. hahahhah

I personally feel that bass strums are great as accents at the parts where the song needs a good punch or as jab with the rest of the folks in the band. I use the last three fingers of my right hand to do this, usually after playing a progression which ends on my index or middle finger, unless its a triplet where i will finish off on my fourth finger but will need a half count break to rein in the hand.

Back to the question of bass chords. No you do not have to follow the sequence when playing triads. They are simply notes ina chord that you can utilize in the key. An arpeggio simply means playing the notes in that chord and as far as I understand, the sequence can be up to your own creativity.

More importantly, is chord construction, as that forms one of the very basics of melody making.

Look up the net, tones of places that teaches you how to construct chords... then you can look at basic scales as well. Hope that helps.

there's where knowledge of music theory comes into play, wad notes to play, wad souns good with wad, when to play.

u might be thumping eighths on the e string but theory is everything.
