Hey people, i need help... QUICK!

hehe... am considering between the bass package between citymusic's craftsmen/dean markley and davis' sx package. which is a better deal? the craftsmen/dean markley only include bass and amp. whereas the sx comes with bass and amp and also tuner/pick. need help fast. getting tomorrow.

another thing is, which kinda bass better? p or j?

thanks.

I'd go for the craftsman out of those two.
Hmm, you can't say the jazz is better than the precision or vice versa because they have different feel, sounds and size. Try for yourself. :D

I'b go for a craftsman... heard that it feels better than the sx... and I think the amp is better than the sx package moreover straps and picks can be relatively cheap so I kinda don't consider that...

well, it's been said that P bass is more suitable for rock. If that have been said and spread around, no smoke without fire.

On the other hand. Band like rush uses a Jazz bass in most of the songs during the Rock in Rio concert. So there u have it.

i almost forgot, there is the PJ bass. can try that too.

But since u're playing punk rock, i think a P bass is more suitable. Just my opinion. Listen to more opinions though.

i'd go for the sx. read many favourable reviews on talkbass forums

which one is that ?

no offence bro :D cos like tt time i went down to help a fren try out the Sx jazz bass package.

sound / tone wise and balance : . generally pretty similar to the craftsman jazz bass in terms of tone. the Sx jazz bass is somewhat mellower to a certain extent and but lacks a warmth to the sound. the sound is deep but not the clear deep booming deep voice expected of an jazz bass, thin on the treble side as well. tonally it seems pretty good , rounded pretty deep comfortable tone, abit lacking on the warm side but i suppose might be the amp included in the package, looks a little small - no tweeter? - generally very comfortable to play ( in terms of balance) and classic jazz bass layout and size.

neck : dry and very poorly finished. not smooth to play on the bass. neck feels slightly larger than the standard jazz bass neck and the nut at the top of the neck is sharp (a REAL sin and a major pain in the ass) and keeps pricking your finger. major downer on this bass. i was thinking , man .. this bass plays really bad , the neck proportion isnt say very uncomfortable to play or too wide, its slim enough to play quick , pretty great grip on it but the finish was the killer. it killed my opinion of the bass , very dry , nearly non-existent finish on the neck made it very rough and very bad to play. it not only hinders you from fast fret to fret transition changes, when attempting to slide along it = total nightmare. i suspect bad QC at Sx is to blame as the neck feels like if its had just one light coating of finish . giving it a very rough and dry neck, killing off the playability of the entire bass.

overall build quality : decent. everything seems to be in order. generally pretty solid and somewhat lightweight body , not sure if its alder or agathis , agathis i think . lighter than alder .

recommendation : not worth it. looks good , sounds decent. plays bad

seems that people favour craftsman more. anyway, if i throw in pick and tuner, how much is it gonna cost?

also, how you know that i wanna play punk?

Eh tuners will cost about 30 bucks and picks (well I prefer my fingers) haha... by the way I don't play bass... just that I find a liking to it recently...

Although I am a p-user myself, a jazz is very versatile too.
Just try them both out.
A p-neck is thicker and wider, so the jazz might just suit you in that aspect.
Pickups wise, the p has more punch, while the jazz is more mellow.
Also, no need to stick to just p and j, try out the others too! :D

your confirm best choice craftman bass ! but you better ask them if u can choose the p bass cos the promo put j bass you ask them first ah but u choose p or j take craftman! everything beats SX ! well thats what i think!

take the craftman. can get the tuner cheap what. at ranking sports. i used to play p-bass but then i bought a fender jazz. i love the jazz and i seriously think you should get the jazz, cos it offers more versatility. of course the ultimate decision is yours. but like what everyone says, try it out. dont be afraid, pick the one with the sound you like most.
