the Pac 112 is a decent guitar to begin with, however, i prefer the 312- to me it felt better...

i am using a yamah pac 112J with SD custom bridge...i just feel that its abit "flimsy".

go for something higher

well, its a part of my arsenal, and i find it pretty decent.

its my first electric guitar, and i literally trawled through almost six pieces of this model to find one that i like.

some of the 112m's wood is crappy, flimsy and a little bit not as resonant as some, but there are others which are much better than average. some people label yamaha guitar as the nowhere here nor there, and there are some which look, and sound crappy.

IMO, i find this guitar a decent one for a beginner, and its very upgradeable...

Squier Fat Strat, List: $600
Ibanez SA160, List: $700

Note:
*The list price for the Squier is the 2003 limited Edition Satin finish verison, it costs more than the one which isn't in this finish... same goes for the Ibanez SA160, the price is for the maple laminate top version, the one without the laminate top lists for cheaper but it's out of stock in the mean time 8)
