Hi

Anyone has a Yamaha Pacifica 112 or 212.

Care to share your review, especially 212?

Can find any local review from the Internet and there is no talks in the forum at all.

if i rmb correctly that one i used last time was the 112. this might not be accurate as i used it when i 1st crossed over from classical to electric. but anyway here goes. the one i had was alder body and it was pretty bright. the original pickups were alright but i changed them to tesla vr1 neck and mid and vr3 bridge if i rmb correctly. sounded a whole lot more sweet even to my tone deaf ears last time. fret job wise, i didnt have to get it set up off the shelf. not buzz, reasonably low action, and easy to fret. not the biggest frets available but definitely not vintage small. these are the things i can remember from my time with the 112 like 2 years ago. i still miss it though...never gave me any problems. unlike my current fender...input jack failing me twice in a year and a half :(

i've tried them and imo, they're overpriced for the overall quality. i myself own a pacifica 312 mkII but it's a discontinued taiwan made series that was around 7 years ago.

the 112s are a little different in terms of feel but i didn't have the luxury of doing close examination on the build / quality at the showroom. what came to mind when i tried it though, is that the craftsman ST130 at citymusic felt about the same, but at half the price.

do go down to citymusic to try their craftsman ST130. people here are also recommending the Smash guitars carried by standard value at peninsular basement. they costs around $200 plus and they equal, if not better, than the yamaha 112s. look for the H-S-S pickup models in particular if you're interested to do a comparison.

here is a case whereby more expensive doesn't translate to better.

yeah for the yamahas over 50% of the price u pay goes towards their marketing campaign so dun expect the prices to be vale for money. not that they're duds but just overpriced imo

I'm using a Yamaha Pacifica 112VCX. I like it, but yeah it's a tad too bright for my liking, and I do agree with MadWerewolfBoy and bf0502tr, that it's overpriced... The problem with brand-new Yamahas from the Yamaha outlets is that they're overpriced in many aspects. So yeah, my advice is, as much as I love my Pacifica, try some other brands first...

It's not bad though, I actually like it a lot as other than the brightness, it seems to fit me perfectly. Almost like it 'chose' me. So I'm not saying to strike Yamaha off immediately, but perhaps you could consider buying secondhand if you're still more interested in a Yamaha Pacifica.

I felt the same too on the overpricing. I guess that could be one of the many reasons why it was not widely discussed and reviewed in the forum. Nevertheless, Yamaha has given many beginners a good place to get close and and personal with the instrument.

The old MIJ/MIT Pacificas were good stuff, especially the MIJ ones, solid gold IMHO. The current batches have degraded with every successive year, i recall that the hallmark of the 112J when i started playing back in 2006 were the very clear sounding stock pickups. Now, they're as muddy as most other stock pickups for the price. The Timbres and Craftsmans have taken over now i guess. If you can find one of the old MIT/MIJ Pacificas, i'd suggest you get those. Very playable, great sounding stock pickups for both distortion and cleans, and the wood was always top quality.
