need some help with single coil setups.. never really tried changing pickups before.. this will be my first...

Davis recommended JB Jr for bridge, Hot stack for mid and little 59'.. any suggestions?

Was actually looking at the ssl-1s.... but should i stick to that for all positions or try diff settings?

Looking for a warm neck from rhythm and a strong yet not too thin and yet not too sharp bridge.. warm distort....

in sorta a tight budget and the range i have here is not that fantastic.. so this is wat i got so far.. about S$80-S$99 per pup.. would really appreciate any suggestions and comments.. thanks guys...

not too sure about any single coil by STAR brand but u cud ask Guitar connection - KC, for an intro ? price about $70+

i fix mine - 2x humbucker ... it has a little warm clean but cos mine is a 3way switch, so not much of a different for neck and bridge .. just slightly sharper on the bridge ... ooh yeah, need to turn up the vol on your guitar to get same effects going

just my 2¢

I have a SSL-3 in the bridge. It is warm. Duckbucker in the neck, which I am going to place in the middle.
Go for the cool rails or SSL-5/6 in the neck for warm lead tones.

actually i would say, go with davis' recommendations. 59 on neck, Jb-Jr on bridge. The hot stack can leave for later.

I like the Custom Staggered on the neck.. you can try that if you like a stock pickup but hotter.

i don't trust them. Davis said i must be a bad musician just because i don't like the Marshall JCM2000s. i was looking for a JCM900 or 800 and i was willing to pay extra if they'd help bring one in for me since they didn't have any in stock.

"it has newer and better technology and electronics. of course it sounds better! if you don't like it you must be a lousy musician."

UGH. gross. he said that a number of years ago, so maybe he's toned down a little since then. i still think it's disgusting though. i'm never buying anything expensive from them. i'd rather fly out of the country and ship back an amp than buy an amp from them. (and that's exactly what i did!)

if you follow their suggestion, you will lose the distinct sound of single coil guitar.

For the amount of money will be spent on the pickup change, I would suggest you buy another cheap humbuckers guitar. Unless you really want to get rid of the single coil sound, then by all means, change your pickup to what they suggest

the auntie did the roughly same to me before ... with a Marshall MG15CDR. 8O my experience wasn't as bad as yours though.

but i don't really blame them. they're foremost business people. just that they were less concerned with service then imo. i do think they've come to realise over the years, that players all have differing needs for their equipment.

yep. it seems that the 59 and JB-Jr seem suitable for him since he wanted the following:

Looking for a warm neck from rhythm and a strong yet not too thin and yet not too sharp bridge.. warm distort....

well, a S-S-H or a H-S-H config isn't that bad, is it? :)

wah... i knew the old man was mean.. didn't know he was this mean... hey guys, really appreciate the replies... honestly..

wondering would it be smart to put a ssl-1 in the mid? sorry i very new at this.. dun really know wat to mix and match..

always liked the humbucker tone... just wondering if i should give up the singlecoil sound for it... haha...

SSL1 has very sweet bell-like tone which im sure u'd like very much. if u dun mind the 60cycle hum of a true single coil, go for it...
