currently using Behringer X V-amp... ratings would be 6/10... hoping to change to a new one within the budget of $200... any recommendations guys?? i play punk rock music...

IMO, multieffects are usually lacking in terms of drive.. but korg's modulations are not bad.. can try to get a korg ax1500g.. not bad.. had one last year.. or if u just play punk rock, just buy an uber metal.. 140 and u can get almost all the types of distortion u need... very versatile stuff...

I personally love my pod...

But punk rock don't need a whole range of sounds that multi fx provides at low cost.

I think you should go ahead with single pedals. They sound better.

Arie: like some have mentioned, if you just wanna play punk rock, you may not need very fancy effects. but if you wish to expand your playing style in the near future, or if you wish to meddle around with effects, a multi-FX can be a good intro to the different kinds of effects available out there. The pursuit of single effects can come later when you have a better idea of what effects you really like and when you have to find a stompbox for just THAT kind of effect you want to hear.

with your budget, i would suggest a Zoom GFX1 (est. $150), or the GFX3 (est. $250) if you can stretch your budget a little.

Zoom does very good effects modelling for budget-conscious users. Boss does good multi-effects too, but at a higher price.

hei dudes... thanks for the info... appreciate it. i actually love experimenting therefore i feel its better to use multi effects.

You may want to check out zoom's newest line of multi-effects the G series.. budget also around $200 - at citymusic. It has some really mega distortion patches if you're looking for that...

Arie, chk your PM

Yeah, the G-series of Zoom's multi-fx look very well-designed.. not sure about how it sounds... but a big visual improvement from the tried and tested multi-fx designs, I esp like the G7 and G9. The Z-Pedal is quite an innovation... besides moving it up and down, you can swivel left and right it for control over drive settings, pitch, panning, feedback, crossfading!

no kidding MrE??? wow.. definitely an improvement over the old zoom pedals.. but i love korg, good effects for a reasonable price..

yeah, the "AX1500G" is a good pedal. i've used one b4 myelf. now currently i'm using a AX3000G which is not bad. the one thing i like abt korg multi-fx pedals is that they're so easy to use and to get the sound u want! im just not really happy with the vox wah on the ax3000g. but then again, i havent really explored much yet.

I had ever use KORG AX1000G (which I think that the processor is not different from AX1500G). As a budget effect, its drive sound is not bad to me. However, as the drive sound is simulated from pre-amp model and cabinet modelor is used in the process, it gives a very thin sound if you use input of the amp. Getting better sound when use 'Return' behind the amp but not every amps will have it, right?
The same case when I changed to use POD 2.0. But it gives a better sound. Of course, not good enough. Line6 product gives you a very good character, which makes you surprise and fall in it. But if you compare the quality of total signal you get with the other effect processor, you will find the totally different in quality.
So, I'd like to convince you to try the effect that is not any Pre-amp simulator unless you would use it to direct recording. Now, I am interesting in Boss ME-50. Its feature is quite great. All effects you need (and some don't) are there. The drive effects are analog approach. The master tone is available to set for any different amps you may face on different gigs. For instance, you could set the master tone to more tough when you use Fender amp; to be higher presence with Mesa; and mild with Marshall.
