Any good picking exercises?

That'd most likely help with sweep picking and to help the foundation of alternative picking?

And a side question...how do I sweep pick if there is the following...

-----------7--------E
---------4----------B
-------3------------G
-----3--------------D
---5----------------A
-4------------------e

At D and G strings, should I use the same finger to sweep pick over the two strings? *like a power chord thingy*

Thanks, looking forward to hearing enlightening responses.

take classical songs and play on electric guitar with distortion. take those by bach or paganini, very good exercise

Thanks Likui. I'm actually doing Moto Perpetuo for practice. Any tips on the shredding question though? I'd really appreciate that.

u do this method comfirm will work tested and proven by me but will take u many many many hrs of practice, u set metronome to 40 play 1 click to 1 quaver beat through out the whole song ( I think after 20 mins u still haven't finish the whole song lol ), next set to 42 then play the whole song then keep increasing by 2, all the way till 120 then u set back to 40 now do 1 click to 1 crotchet beat, then u slowly increase to 42 , 44 , 46 etc until u reach the speed u like. At all times make sure u relax both hands if at anytime you feel strained on any hands means your technique is wrong , never relax or something like that. After many many many hrs of practice your hands should still be ok no strain at all. Yeap that's a tip try it and tell me if it works for you.

pick 1 string through all 6 strings (downwards)
pick 1 string through all 6 strings (upwards)
pick 2 strings (alternate pick) through all 6

I will try that. Thanks Likui!

Thank Naviros. I've been doing that. I do the spider exercises, play scales, and I do both up and down, plus alternate.

Hmmm... you can search online... I find Micheal Angelo Batio's warm up run to be quite effective...

for me I feel yes this thing helps also but very boring, because the sound that comes out from the amp not nice, i would rather take a song which has all these techniques and play it at least something nice comes out from the amp. Or i write my own song with all these picking techniques. So I get to play nice music and practice whatever techniques I want to play
