hey Benjso28,

have you tried the NE-1 before? Are you able to provide some sound clips on ur site? would like to try out a NE-1 but staff at Yamaha looks too unfriendly haha...

Tried the NE-1 before, didn't really do much for me, like the knobs didn't really affect the sound that much. Maybe i used a bad unit or just that my bass doesn't need that much eq-ing, but safe to say i never felt the need to use it again after that, even though its still sitting there.

I'll probably try it again sometime soon and give a more in-depth review of it. :)

Sansamp bass driver DI

this gadget is real good... available at Sim Lim level 3... Esden...

kinda rare to find Sansamp bass driver DI in Singapore already...

cost S$300.00 gst included... but its worth it!!!

sorry to hijack this thread.

im getting interested in DI boxes due to output options available on various scenarios, e.g. gigging, recording or just jamming.

are there reliable and pure DI boxes (with preamp) for cheap? i wouldnt mind an m80 for its acclaimed good clean tone. but since its distortion channel (i do not dig distortion dat much) leaves much to be desired, i might look at separates for better allocation of finances.

For example, I'm thinking of a DI box + EQ pedal + other effects.

Should I put the DI right after the axe or at the end of the chain before the amp?

Or its better to get an m80 and add effects later?

I find the sansamp pretty good, its a DI unit, has drive when you need it, and it has an onboard preamp too, for those passive basses in need of that extra boost and sound adjustment. Haven't tried the m80 yet, but it seems interesting.

The M80's a decent enough pedal, but I'd rather use a Sansamp because the drive actually does add warmth to the signal. M80's drive is more buzzy (therefore annoying to my ears). Ideally these things are supposed to be preamps but I put mine at the end of the chain, before my delay so it gives an overall boost.

What are you going to be using the DI for? I've realised after a while that I don't use my DI out that much... in fact, I haven't used it in months. Go figure :/

*Pure* DI boxes are not cheap. If I got one, it'd be the Countryman Type85.

my experience with the sansamp bass driver felt like it took a lot of my hi-mids and highs out, thereby having a fat but rather flat or bland tone. but i havent really owned one to have a tweak with it..

i've tried the m-80 with its 3 band EQ, pretty decent clean setting, the distortion is rather dirty, but i like it, very cutting and i can see myself using that for some irritating effects.

with regards to the NE-1, i really like what it does to both my passive and active basses, the deep setting really adds that dash of oomph, and the colouring of it with the Q-function makes it very easy to get your desired 'extra trimming'

i happen to have an mxr 6-band eq after the NE-1 to give my mids a further boost. namely the 400 - 800 hz

i'm looking at a dynacomp next on my signal chain

yeahhh.. ive been wondering about the M-80 too.. if it put it first in my signal chain, does that mean that any effects i put in after it wont get picked up by the DI?
