Hmm.

As with every new player entering the vicious world of guitar playing (not to put you off but...) the key to making sound decisions is to direct your questions towards more experienced friends who can give you answers that are not too biased.

In the mean time, perhaps you could provide us with the following info:

1. your budget: since you've already spent $180 on a guitar, what do you have left?
2. what style of guitar to do have (wood material, body shape etc) and what are its pickup configurations?
3. do you have any music genre in mind / influences from any bands?

Now the ball is in your court. :)

these are good beginner amps to own, new or otherwise:

*Roland microCUBE
*VOX DA5

for something with less frills but gets the job done:

*Peavey Back Stage
*Marshall MG15
*Sound Drive SG10 ($90- recommended)
