alternate picking

i noe it is importan in playing all those solo
but i having problem and when i tried to alternate picking by the end of the day i still will down stroke picking
can any1 help my problem

well. i had tt problem too. but u haf to force urself to slowly learn. now i automatically alt pick everything.

Lots of patience, and slow practice is the key.

try playing frets 1-2-3-4 from up to down and reverse maintaining the alternate pick....use a metronome.......then later on just practice any scaling that u want using alternate pick...........

well how i learned alternate pick last time cos i used to strum my acoustic guitar up and down and sometimes playing some offspring stuff on it too...so alternate pickin just came to me naturally???...

it comes naturally...when theres smoke , theres fire. Ok don't burn your guitar what i mean is that , like the above poster said..do the spider 1-2-3-4 alternate pick all the way. Than whatever stuff u play , just alternate pick , after a week or so it should come natural.

they say those who has a hadbit of picking downward are usualyy born rockers...

nah, rock and roll people usually pick downwards... such as chuck berry, hendrix, YES, ramones, and other bands... in theirr songs you notice they always have doubling... and usually they double really fast, so alternate picking is out of the question for them...
