See you there!

If you are down at Singfest this weekend, pop by and catch our acts at Stage 2! Zero Sequence will be performing on Saturday 2 August, 1800hr while Allura takes the stage at 2000hr on Sunday 3 August 2008.

For our Malaysian friends and the peeps who are traveling up north, B-Quartet will be opening for Japanese math rock act, toe on Sunday 3 August 2008. The show will be held at Jupiter Hall, Global Business Park, PJ, Malaysia. Showtime is at 1900hr.

Amberhaze from KittyWu Records will be providing support as well. Singapore sale of early-bird tickets are at SGD38.00 ( available till 31 July 2008 ) and RM 100.00 at the door. For Singapore fans, email to ticketing@kittywurecords.com or log on to www.kittywurecords.com.

Finally, the long awaited documentary on the Khmer Rouge regime is done. It contains instrumental tracks which Lunarin recorded for the film. “The Trouble with Waiting” is the edited short version and will be showing at Sinema (Old School, Mount Sophia) on Thursday 31 July 2008, 1900hr.

Check out more details at: http://www.sinema.sg/oldschool/category/documentaries/.

The full length version of the film, “Brother No. 2” will feature the single ‘Zero Point Red’ at the closing credits. But it is uncertain if that version will be screened in Singapore.

Hard-working alternative rock act Allura will be joining Electrico’s ‘We Satellites’ tour, providing support. The Fire Fight and Silhouette will be kicking out the jams as well. The show kicks off at 2030hr at the Youth Park on Saturday 9 August 2008. Yesssshhhh, it’s National Day! Unless you have a date with the National Day Parade or your TV watching the National Day Parade, we strongly encourage you to join us for this explosive party! Okay, it’ll not be as colourful as a sky filled with fireworks. But close… Hey, admission is free, too.

If you are free tonight on Tuesday 12 August (ie. not attending the Death Cab For Cutie show), catch the sextet also known as Zero Sequence dishing out their prog-rock jams at Timbre (45 Armenian Street), 2030hr. While admission is based on a first drink order, Happy Hour is only until 2100hr. Life is rather harsh at times…

If you are free on Thursday 14 August, pop by the newly opened Supperclub (Odeon Towers, 331 North Bridge Road) at 2000hr. B-Quartet’s Haykal, who is a published poet and a fledging literary writer will be giving a spoken word performance as part of the opening festivities. Cover charges apply.

Saturday 16 August sees the progressive rock act Zero Sequence performing along with The Marilyns for the launch of Berita Harian’s new magazine Sutra at the lobby of The Cathay at 1500hr. If you like what you hear, there’s a Gramophone on-site where you can pick up a copy of their debut album ‘Flight Of Transcendence’. Please give drummer Imran a hug as he’s leaving for the States for a few months to spread some love to some hot Latinas.

Alt-rockers Allura steps onto the Timbre stage on Tuesday 19 August 2008. Showtime is 2000hr and admission is based on a first drink charge. We ran outta jokes for this news piece…

Taking a break from their very long break are our boys, B-Quartet. They will be playing a full-on (ie. no more acoustic!) showcase for Electrico’s ‘We Satellites’ tour. Pop by HOME Club on Thursday 21 August 2008. The show will kick off at 2100hr. Admission is free before 2100hr and for those above 18 years old.

B-Quartet’s drummer Hidir fronts the grunge outfit known as Page with the “effects guy” Sirraj playing bass as well. They will be performing 2 sets on Friday 22 August 2008 at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre. The first set kicks off at 1930hr. Admission is free.

B-Quartet’s Haykal will be conducting a spoken word experiment which explores the use of language and meaning by deconstructing a premise to further expand an experience within a story told through use of various mediums such as music, sculptures and visuals. Entitled ‘What Day Is It Today?’, the performance will take place on the Saturday 30 August 2008 at the Esplanade Theatre Studio. Showtime is 1900hr.

It is part of a SPARKS presentation, a development programme by the Esplanade. This is an invite-only performance. If you are interested, email banitheemphibian@yahoo.com. The subject of the email is ATTENDING SPARKS. Please include your name and the number of people you are coming with.

The Lard Brothers will be performing ‘Wish You’ll Never Leave Time’ with MC Garuda and DJ Ko Flow which they collaborated on at the Padang for the Nike Run. On Sunday 31 August 2008, they will rock the stage at 1700hr. Admission is by invite or signing up for the run. The song can be downloaded along with the rest of the album ‘Forest Action Team’ at http://www.agingyouth.com. Our boy Ko Flow will be launching his debut EP ‘Bank Street International’ on the day itself. You can get a copy of his turntable madness at all Nike stores or Roxy Records. Hip-hop and hot, sweaty girls go like durian and liang teh. A perfect match…

Allura will join The Fire Fight, Jack & Rai, Cardinal Avenue and many more to perform as part of a fund-raising concert ‘GLO For Youths’ on Monday 1 September 2008. Admission is SGD15.00 with the show kicking off at 1800hr at For Canning Green.

B-Quartet, the numerically challenged 6-piece alternative rock act returns to the newly rebuilt Esplanade Outdoor Theatre on Saturday 6 September 2008. They take the stage at 1930hr, opening for Vertical Rush. Soak in the tunes which you know and love. Expect some new ones from the as-yet-unrecorded 2nd album.

New albums alert!!!

Our friends You And Whose Army? will be releasing their debut EP this weekend at Baybeats (The Esplanade) in conjunction with their performance on Saturday 30 August 2008, 2000hr. Do order their EP from them! Vertical Rush joins in the fun with their sophomore release. The 5-piece alternative rock act will headline the Nokia Stage on Friday 29 August 2008 with a 2300hr set.

Get your copies of both albums fresh at Baybeats which kicks off this weekend from Friday. Check out the rest of the line-up at http://www.baybeats.com.sg.
