Adding in snippets/improvised verses?

Got a bit of a question for you guys here. Sometimes when I'm jamming a song with my friends or something, I get a bit carried away and throw in a bit of another song that fits. One example was when I was jamming Bad by U2, and I sang the chorus of Knockin' On Heaven's Door over the riff. :S. My girlfriend thinks it's a really bad habit and that it ruins the integrity of the song. Sometimes I throw in a few impromptu made up lines that come from outer space too. Is this an accepted practice for local gigs? Not very experienced at gigging so asking for a bit of advice. Thanks!

If you believe the word practice made perfect then you"re on the right track!! Learn your mistakes & if you ever happen to forget your lyrics then repeat fom the start or etc. wish you all the best!!!!

So far the only complaint I received from people doing that is only during jams when they need to seriously practice and prepare for a gig..

Other than that I think it's not so much of a bad habit, although it might piss people off if you go beyond the line :P For gigs as far as I'm concerned those little snippets can grab the attention of the crowd especially when you're playing originals and they can't follow..

I think it's a habit only if it's overdone? Just have limits lah, don't do it all the time.. fun jam or something can, it perks up the band sometimes but it's good to know when to draw the line..
