Acoustic guitar recommendation!

Hey guys, I've trawled through the entire rookie thread and I need some help with buying a new acoustic guitar!

So far, I've been using a locally made guitar and I think it's time to upgrade.

I've a budget of around $300 and music-wise, I like rock, oldies and top 40 songs - the simple stuff.

Some additional info, I'm picking up the acoustic guitar to familiarise myself with guitar playing etc before I move on to the bass guitar.

Which brands/guitars are good for beginners? So far, Yamaha is out, judging from the reviews. I've also looked at reviews for Squier, etc and am quite confused now!

Please advise :)

I have to agree with niteblade. Bass and guitar is really quite different so you're better off familiarizing yourself with bass now rather than moving on to upgrade your current guitar.. save time and money.

But if you really insist on starting out with acoustic guitar playing first, try Takamine brands? Or Ibanez start pack..etc, not sure myself. Probably better to go to the shop and see which one you personally feel comfortable with regardless of brand/model.

HEy Man..

AT a budget of $300+, there's a guitar called custom acoustics FG-27 sold at City Music. (That was the sale price but I'm sure you can get them to give you a discount still).

The guitar is a dreadnought and has FULL SOLID wood Construction(Engelmann Spruce top and solid Rosewood back and sides) and it comes with a BBand pickup. AT that price, its excellent value for money.

The only issue I have with the guitar is that the neck is slightly thick. But I guess that's because I"m used to a smaller profile neck.

your posts are not helping very much. And they're rather irritating.

Maestro's acoustics are better than i thought they were.

you will be an irritant for the rest of your life if you cant even tell that what i said was just a joke.

if you're using an acoustic to familiarise yourself with guitar, so that you can move on to bass, stick to your current one. because there would be no point in investing in a good/decent acoustic if it is just a stepping stone.

using the guitar as a basis for bass isn't that bad an idea. i'm a guitarist and i play some bass too. i learnt how to play bass from a guitar. you have to learn your fretboard. but in the end, you'd obviously still need a bass to play bass. so unless your current acoustic is in horrible condition and cant be played, just save up for a bass instead. it'll be worthit. :D
