Acoustic Guitar Care

I bought a new acoustic guitar today and was wondering what are the things which we should do to in order to maintain the guitar's lifespan. I would love to hear from you guys! Thanks!

Can you explain? your terms are very vague. And also depends on your budget. You can buy a dehumidifier and use a hardcase so the moisture problem isn't too bad. Also buy string cleaners, available at shops like Davis and G77. Lemon oil for cleaning the fretboard when changing strings. TO improve tone buy tonerite from Maestro. And that's about the basic stuff... If anything you might want to search online or check with guitar shop assistants.

And to prolong string life, regularly give your strings a wipe with a soft, dry cloth especially after playing. I do that and my, do my strings last! (And they aren't even coated. I've used 6-month-old strings live before  )

And keeping your guitar in the case when you're not playing for a long period of time also helps especially if your guitar's a solid-top or all-solid acoustic guitar. If you use all-laminates (like me), leaving it on the stand all day long is perfectly fine.

Perhaps you could elaborate more about your guitar, because different specifications (solid wood vs. laminate wood, and even between brands) means different guitars will require different levels of maintenance.

Ah sorry that was my bad. I guess I could have done with more introduction. I bought a Takamine G440C over at Davis today. And since I'm a complete beginner to the guitar, I wanted to know if there are any particular steps which I should take in order to keep the guitar in tip-top condition. So I wanted to hear what others are doing to preserve the condition of their guitars.

Thank you Jumpin'Jellybean and EugeneSmasher for your tips!

I see. Best would be yto ask Davis staff cause they sold you the guitar. ALso check with Maestro staff. They are specialist with acoustic guitars.
