I'm beginning to learn acoustic guitar this year in my school! I'm interested in learning both the electric and acoustic guitar :) (My school offers "Higher Music" but there is an interview for students, im thinking of taking it up as i love music alot but unfortunately, i didn't learn any instruments :()

1. How do i select a guitar? Also which guitar are good? I heard that the Squier Stratocaster is good for beginners and is it good to use it to perform in front of teacher for an interview? :) (stated above)

2. If i want to learn by myself, what websites or books would be good?

3. Is there any shop in Singapore that sells cheap and good guitars? :) (My budget is around $150.) I have done research and Peninsular Plaza, Ossia Music School, Music Ensemble seems to have good guitars that are cheap.

4. If i want to learn guitar really quickly and master all the basic in four months, is it possible? And should i find a teacher to teach me?

5. If i buy a Squier Stratocaster, what amp will go with it? and what other equipments would i need? (eg. spare string, tuner) And which shop sells cheap and good Squier Stratocaster? :D

6. What tuner is easy to use?

7. What else should i know about Acoustic and Electric Guitar? :p

Thanks for looking at this, please do answer my questions, even if it's one question, it's alright! :) Arigatou <3 Usa-chan PEACE! :)

Hi,

7.I think you would like to be clear in which direction you would be heading into. Whether is the acoustic or electric side. Dont regret making the wrong choice after buying a guitar which does not suit your taste at all. 2. Youtube is quite a good site for awesome music lessons, but i would recommend you to go for lessons if you do not have the motivation to sit through endless and countless videos.

Hope all this helps :D

Thing is electric and acoustic have differences.

lolwut..

care to enlighten me the HUGE differences in an electric and acoustic?

anway TS, your budget can get you a good enough acoustic, but for electric, you'd need more to have a decent set up, 400 bucks would be good.

save money and get both lor.....

i used to think i only needed one guitar, now i have 4, and ive owned more then 20 these 3 years ):

1. Squiers are decent. And any guitar is good to use to perform in front of the teacher as long as they are working =)

2. There are tons of youtube video lessons which are free. I myself follow www.nextlevelguitar.com/ and www.creativeguitarstudio.com/ (< usually for theory stuffs)

3. The shops in Peninsula. Your budget is enough for an acoustic but you can't get any other accessories apart from it. Also, it is quite low for any decent electric guitar. It would be better if you can increase is to a minimum of $250 if you wanna get an electric.

4. Discipline is what you need. Some may suggest that it's better to get the basics correct by getting a teacher. But it really depends on u, if u see the need for it or not.

5. Swee Lee and SV sell Squier strats. Bullet strat costs $199 at SV. About the same price at Swee Lee (WHEN THEY ARE HAVING A SALE, 40% off 50% off)

6. Just get a normal clip tuner.

1. If you feel good holding it, that's the guitar you'd want to pick. Try to ignore the price and etc first. Of course, keep in mind your budget.

2. YouTube is good. Many beginners video.

3. Peninsula is a good place to shop for your guitar.

4. "Basic", 4 months is possible, in fact, lesser than that. But if you mean "BASIC", then...ummm...mastering the guitar is an endless road. There's no true master to an instrument.

5. SweeLee has Squier or if you don't mind 2nd-hand guitar, you can check out the classified section. You'd need an amp (Yamaha got offer for Orange amps at the moment), a tuner and 1-2 pack of new strings (in case you snap if you restring). But I wouldn't worry about restringing first. Focus on tuning and playing, after 1-2 months, change your string. YouTube your way to victory.

6. At first I use a $10 tuner, my friend uses a $12 electric tuner. I'm currently using a Korg Pitchblack tuner. So you can just use a simple tuner first and then get a better one once you get the hang of using the guitar.

7. They're different. Wiki has a lot of info on acoustic and electric, you may wanna read up more on them before deciding. There are also different playing style. Just my own opinion and philosophy, the acoustic is a mid of classical and electric. Versatile in its own ways. But it also depends on the kind of music you wanna play and what you need.

Have fun! I YouTube my way for 2-3 years, then I decided to get a professional teacher to teach me. I'm still learning, there's so much to learn still. Enjoy!

Regarding lokiregnarok's:
3. The shops in Peninsula. Your budget is enough for an acoustic but you can't get any other accessories apart from it. Also, it is quite low for any decent electric guitar. It would be better if you can increase is to a minimum of $250 if you wanna get an electric.

Yeah, you should think about increasing your budget if you want electric. But, I think SV is selling acoustic for $150 with some accessories included. My friend bought his guitar from SV. It includes some DVD tutorial, a basic tuner, a bag and I don't know what else. Not sure if the offer is still there but you can try. My Maestro guitar cost me $250 with a bag and a tuner, that was years ago.

But if you want, you can try to get an acoustic pedal with your electric guitar. That's just one way to workaround things.
