Acoustic Covers!

Hey evangoh!

I checked out your video for Muse's "Starlight". Nice! I liked your guitar strumming. :p

Keep those videos comin'!

You're most welcomed, evangoh! Encouragement coupled with some constructive criticisms drives us to become better musicians! (that's just in my opinion la)

Enjoy your gigs too!

sorry but bad guitar playing, bad recording and bad singing = bad song. try listening to the original pokerface. Listen carefully to every single small little detail to how lady gaga sings the chorus. if u dun plan to take vocal lessons, u might wan to try imitating how different singers sing. a good pop singer to learn from is jason mraz. Listen to the variations between every lines that he sings. The different feel he gives between the 1st verse and the 2nd verse in im yours and if u listen carefully, the way he sings every note is sometimes different. and also look up leona lewis "summertime" and listen to every note she sings.

l0u5y : haha no problem man everyone's entitled to their opinions :D Well i'm not actually trying to imitate anyone though, just doing it my way =) I suppose i won't try to emulate the original either, cos I'll just become a male lady gaga singing poker face O.O

However I do get what you're saying too of course! A few of my friends who do take vocals lessons tell me that learning to sing in the style of people who are already fantastic, ala Mraz, will undoubtedly improve your own singing.

I'd like to think that these pop vocalists, be it gaga or mraz or even jay chou, can reproduce the subtle nuances of their recordings in their live performances... I'm sure they can, but I guess I'm far from that for now =)

Keeping up the rhythm on guitar, singing, and at the same time recording it live all in one take, is after all, not simple.

Looks like I've got much to work on!! :)

Thanks again, for your honest opinions!

gtuckerkellogg : Thanks!! I tried my best la haha... Really glad you liked it! Could be better actually... dunno whether I conveyed different feels in the first and second chorus... Now that I look back maybe alot more could have been done.

i disagree.i think its good to have your own personality when you cover songs.

anyway nice cover on "check yes juliet".
Intro a bit wobbly though.but overall good.

Thanks 9000!! Are you referring to the one I did on my own in my room or with my band at Ben and Jerry's?

I agree I tend to not be very "steady", and in other words, wobbly, especially at the non-climax moments... Like for choruses its easy to just let it all out, you get my drift?

Anyone has any suggestions to remove wobbliness?

Oh for my guitar covers that I do at home, I use this super lame Logitech Webcam that cost me 45 bucks I think. It actually comes with a built in microphone, but its too sensitive and it breaks up when i start singing loudly... ala Muse - Uno, that kind of thing. So I had to use a $6.90 china made microphone which i clip to my neck (if you look closely you can see it on the videos), and that worked better :)

I know this is a recipe for disaster for recording but well I guess this is as much as I can afford now... Investing in some hardcore recording equipment will come after I settle my gearlust.... after buying my pedaltrain, barber tone press, holy grail reverb, bb preamp, and barber dirty bomb, i'm already close to broke again. Next up will be a delay pedal but i'm still not very sure what to get =x

Thanks ra1nforest for your kind comments man! I'd like to think I can sing, but of course I acknowledge that there's plenty of room for improvement.

After the past year of performing, I've gone from stage fright to no fright, and that's good cos it allows for me to give my 100 percent instead of ending up nervous n screwing up. Now it's really time to up my game and polish up the vocals and really improve, else I'm just gonna end up singing my songs in a mediocre, "tan jia" fashion.

Anyone else got any comments/critiques/flames/words of wisdom, please feel free! I'm here to learn like everyone else :)

Blues covers

I think covers can be sometimes even better than original songs,
as long as it doesnt sounds the same, i like play covers.

that's a good example of cover that in original was a 3 minutes song,
here it became a 7 minutes song, with stunning guitars.

you can take a look:

yeah man, you dont wanna be a copycat singer right, well thats something new! but you should probably take a few pointers from those who made it big in the industry, just my $0.02 worth! :) nice job anyway!

Epiphon3 : Ah yes thanks! Well I think I shall at least try n analyze what some of the singers are doing in other songs n try to pick it up, and at the same time try not to sound completely like them. =)

Thanks, for listening and commenting! :)

Cheers!
