About opamps

Especially to the pedal builders/modders. I'm doing some modification on my sd-1 and have some questions about opamps. How do you know what type of opamps are suitable for pedals? is it all in the specs or only certain brands/models are suitable? if specs, what to look for in it?

i think the trannies and capacitors etc.. play more of a part than the opamps, not that changing the opamp chips does not help though.try that b4 using diff. opamp chips on my distortion pedal b4 and the diff. is very small.

Done that. Actually I turned it into a clean boost but have this crazy idea of making to switch to overdrive too. Right now just experimenting, some says opamp does made a difference. Also curious about stacked opamps.
