85 or 81

i cant find guitars tt i could try out tt had emg 85 on the bridge
so i was wandering if it sounded good compared to the emg 81 in the bridge
any opinions?

i tried a EMG85 on the bridge before , i perfer the emg85 compared to the 81 as the 85 has a warmer darker tone and a nicer clean , i would suggest u go to 85/60 but all depends all the style u're playing la

yes...go for a 85/60 combo.
i have that in my epi LP.

I used to have my 81 at the bridge and my 85 at the neck. Used that combi for many years to jam metallica stuff haha!

But recently, for my band S.P.O.N.G.E, I switched the 81 and 85 for more mids to get the tone I wanted to fit the sound the band wanted to create. After playing with it this way for about a year now, I think I'm sticking to 85 at the bridge permanently.
