Guys this would be a nice prelude to Rock for Wayne on the same day - it features the final Ronin set with Levan Wee as vocalist, so please be down to support. Sexies (long time no set) and Project Ultrasound will play support :)

Love,
Saito

I-Rock Presents Ronin Live!
Outside of Orchard Cineleisure
23rd June 2007
3pm to 6pm

Copied from my Event brief: lazy

1. Event Brief, Theme, Decor
• To launch I-Rock, the latest innovation by Dunlopillo, targeted at the younger crowd, specifically 10 to 22 years old. This mattress has in-built speakers that can be easily connected to one’s favourite portable music player and get rocked to sleep literally. It comes only in single and supersingle sizes.

2. Promotions
• To reinforce the branding and product relaunch, two supersingle beds will be given away to the audience during the band intervals. Up to three individuals will be asked up on stage to play a simple game, the winner gets to win the prize.

3. Entertainment/Programme
• Apart from 5 piece band – Ronin who is the main highlight of the event, we are featuring two other local bands – Project Ultrasound and The Sexies. Each of these bands will perform not more than 30mins. During the bands’ performances, the audience is strictly not allowed onstage. There will be an allowance of up to 15mins for encore performance.

Not final Ronin set - Levan is going solo after this point due to artistic differences. You can catch him at Rock for Wayne too in Astroninja Allstars.

The reason I left was to work on a new project that has turned into a new band, Astroninja. Which means 'out of this world ronin' :) And it's also spelt as AstRONINja haha!

Wayne's tribute song was originally an Astroninja album track, but was turned into the Wayne Thunder tribute track thanks to the many talented peeps who contributed on it. But that is roughly the kind of sound Astroninja will have, though there are still a lot of rock tracks, but not in the same vein as Ronin. Wayne was also meant to be the drummer of the band.

I left mainly because 1) I felt that in doing so, I would have more time to do my part in the scene in more areas other than just performing onstage. I think I had reached my end with them after the school tour, which was a 60 gig totally exhaustive gig-stretch. I've played more than 150 shows with Ronin in total. 2) My dispute with my drummer is a long running one. I've always had the philosophy that not everyone is born a prodigy, but the very least one can do is to practice their craft to the best of their ability. If the end result is an average one, at least you can look back in life and reflect on how you gave it your all.You don't need to be the best at what you do, all you need to do is try your best. But our differences are purely professional, and on a social and informal level, I give him my full respect. 3) you can only do the same thing over and over again for so long. people move on :)

Ronin will still continue as a four-piece band and I wish them all the best of luck.

As for Astroninja, our myspace is at www.myspace.com/astroninjaallstars.

However, because Wayne was our main producer, we will only be continuing our recordings in end July and wrap up the album in October.

Levan

bur Ronin w/o you is like AC/DC w/o Bon Scott or Rolling Stones w/o Mick Jagger... if Ronin remain as 4 pc - whose gonna front the band?

Officially, the fronting of the new Ronin will remain a surprise for now. Do check them out at IROCK.

The Sexies have been rearing to go for a while with their lead (xiao an) captive in NS

Lets rock out (and jump on mattresses)

I must say this has been the most unusual client I've had all year

haha no i don't think saito is fronting, though that would be cool. haha!
in the end I wish them well. We've spent many years and countless gigs together. Yes, I do have personal differences with the drummer. Yes, we don't always get along (but we don't try to kill each other too!) But we stuck through a lot of hard times and challenging situations together, the five of us, in a time when local music was almost entirely dead a few years ago. I will definitely miss the times when we had good shows. it just comes down to a change in musical taste mostly.

I would also like to point out that mark saito was exceptionally patient and accomodating to us during the times when things were getting rocky, and for that i give him my full kudos for being a true professional and sticking his head out countless times.

in the end, they gave me the biggest blessing of all, and for that I ill ALWAYS be thankful; the opportunity to meet so many passionate musicians and friends I made along the way is the best thing anyone could ever ask for. If I hadn't joined them, I don't know what I would be doing now, but it would certainly be far more boring!

Levan - best of luck to you in your new line up and to Ronin as well, you guys ROCK (both individuually & collectively).

Ronin is changing lineup? Oh man, I love the lead guitar (and no, I am not gay, but I think he got the chops).

sean, derryn and bang can all really sing- vocally things can still work out, but the x factor of levan's frontmanship will be sorely missed
